Try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.usps.com>http://www.usps.com</A>

I've had a few, albeit lighter, items sent from the states and they were far cheaper and pretty well as quick.

DHL are not very well known in the US but they have recently started a big advertising campaign and I've seen some vans around, but it looks like they should look at their pricing

I'm just trying to help.

Just took a look at ShiptoShore; I didn't realise it is a UK company. WestMarine price $1099, SOSGPS.com price $802.

If it's correct, and it would seem that it is. Then it's daylight robbery in my opinion.

How time flies, it only seems that DHL have 'taken over' the UK end of Airborne Express shipments in the past few months.

We had one express shipment, about a month ago, that took 36 hours from San Diego to Exeter, then 7 days from Exeter to Brixham.

As I said, a long time in that business. Used to use them many years ago, when they were regarded as foremost US company in that field (suprised Arthur thinks they are little known in US, as it was US companies that used to insist on using them) They used to deliver ahead of standards then.

Things have changed, used to deliver to me in India within 36 hours, when no one else could get things through customs inside of 2 weeks.

Don't knock them on one delivery though, all carriers suffer from that, for a variety of reasons.

That was the worst delay, but there has been something go wrong with every Airborne Express/DHL shipment we have received in the past 2 or 3 months, damage, one (or more) boxes missing, delays etc.

We get 2 or 3 shipments a month from the USA & the companies we buy from have contracts with AE, so if nothing else they are cheap.

In our experience, DHL always have been very good for shipments to countries to the East of Europe, but very expensive elsewhere.

Brendan - we always used DHL from UK to US, but in 18 yr here, I've only just begun to see their vans and their ads. In fact it was recently news that they are making a push here. So, I dunno what happened in the meantime. Any road up, US Mail is a lot less expensive and it works for me.

I think that DHL have recently purchased DANZAS who are a large freight forwarder. Part of the move into logistics as well as parcels that Fedex, UPS etc are making. For stuff to Canada from UK I have alway used Fed Ex who seemed cheapest and best service. Now I am sending stuff the other way Canada Post's Expresspost service seems pretty good.

You wouldn't have to try hard to screw up Airborne Express, I used to plead with an Israeli supplier not to use them, charges looked ok on paper but by the time the goods arrived at my door they had somehow become vastly more expensive.

They seemed to have some kind of strangle hold on goods out of Tel Aviv.

Re: Are they serious - $75,000 DHL

I have a friend who has a quarry (travertine marble) here in Italy. He does a lot of work in the US and he told me a story of when he was fitting out Brad Pitt's bathroom in LA. Mr. Pitt was so pleased with the bathroom that he wanted a new fireplace for his birthday party which was a week away. Friend faxed drawings back to Italy and got the fireplace shipped DHL "overnight". Cost $75,000. $5000 for the fireplace $70,000 shipping!!

Hi

I find on lighter stuff, paperwork, documents etc that Fedex to and from the States is always a good price and do next day as standard to most major cities (Ive had stuff pickeed up at 6 and delivered to LA by 10 next morning using there standard delivery) as opposed to UPS standard delivery that seems to be 2 day and twice the price
