........ to clean a prop, keel and rudder?

Our boat was lifted for a pre-purchase survey in May (Conwy Marina - £614 for a lift over lunchtime! Ridiculous price - but I digress) and it was jet washed at the same time. I was noticing a bit less speed than I would expect so put the underwater camera down yesterday for a wee look. It seems that either the jet washing at the survey or just old antifouling has meant that there are barnacles all over the prop and on the trailing edge of the keel and rudder.

It would only take about 15 mins to remove if the boat was lifted, but as I don't plan on hauling the boat until January, I thought if I could get a local diver to pop down for a fee, then that would be the best bet.

Does anyone know of a local diver who would do the job for me?

Cheers

Sorry, I don't know divers but check with Marina Office as they may have restrictions.

Alternatively there used to be a scrubbing grid at The Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club, Millport inner harbour is a sandy bottom and a good wall for drying out against, contact Tarbert Harbour and ask if you can dry out against their dolphin or on the slip behind the pier.

I'm way south of you, but our marina has forbidden "divers" not sure what they might do if I slipped into the water with a wee brush one sunny day.

Can you beach your boat? We beach our Gib'sea 96 and give it a clean. Just make sure everything is well stowed inside - and yes it is a very French thing to do.

Why not contact a local BSAC branch (easily found using their website search) and ask if it can be made into a non-commercial training exercise while, for example, anchored in a nice, safe bay.

This avoids any issues with diving in a marina
and associated H&S considerations.

Some diving branches would appreciate a bit of a challenge. As a diver many years ago, I was asked to remove monofilament fishing line from around the prop of a local yacht.......and look where that led me!

I’m sure that a few beer tokens would be appreciated by the diving group.
