Wonder if anyone can help identify the heat exchanger that’s been added to my Kubota Z600, and if that’s a bolt head for an anode at the bottom right of the heat exchanger cylinder? Quite a lot of corrosion around it. There’s no anode on the engine block itself as far as I can see.

No need for an anode in the engine as that is full of freshwater based coolant. Could well be a pencil anode under that bolt head. Take it out and check if it has an internal thread to screw in the anode. You can see how they work here asap-supplies.com/anodes/engine-anodes/universal although it may be one specific to the HE with the anode as part of the nut. The nut may of course just be a drain plug.

Don't recognise the HE. Does that brass plate have any clue? not a pretty sight, but guess it works OK.

Thanks, this photo was from last year. It’s a bit worse now. The ID plate’s pretty worn, think there’s just a date on it (early 70s!) - I’ll undo that bolt next time I’m down and see what’s on the other end. 👍

+1 to Tranona's reply but it It does not look as though there will be room for an anode .

It looks very like a Bowman to me. If so it should have the name on the nameplate together with the model type.

ITYWF If it is a Bowman it will have have cupronickel tubes, which are corrosion resistant, and composite end caps, which do not add another metal or alloy into the equation and no anode.

Thanks for the info. There’s a hell of a lot of corrosion around it this year (pic was from a year ago) - If that is just a drain plug I’m guessing that’d be for the freshwater/antifreeze mix?

No it's in the seawater side
A drain for the coolant would have to be in the main body
