Cagliari was Re: Alghero

There's a posh marina at the eastern end of the outer harbour; it doesn't have fuel so we never went there so don't know nuffink abaat it.

The inner basin is well sheltered from wind and surge from (lots of) ferries, but is crammed with fishing boats so you might struggle to find a space, but they are friendly. Don't use the self-service fuel pumps on the street nearby, they eat bank notes (don't ask!!).

There is a boatyard at the western end of the outer harbour with pontoons, water and fuel (petrol and diesel) but it's a long walk to the town from there through a industrial area.

The outer harbour and the breakwaters were lined with laid-up ferries and derelict freighters when we were there (december 2000). Don't know about druggies or anything else; we only stopped for fuel and a supermarket dash, so can't comment on the quality or otherwise of Cagliari itself.

cheers,
david

Near the Alghero airport, in Fertilia, there is another (smaller) harbour.
It's more sheltered, at least from mistral, as far as I remember.
You might have a look at it, I'd expect them to offer cheap rates in wintertime.
But of course, if Alghero is quiet in these days, it's still sort of Disneyland when compared to Fertilia!...

Yes, You are right Mario, we have gone in there once or twice for a couple of hours. The repair facilities look quite extensive as well. It's dead in the summer so now ??
There is another marina in the bay around Capo Caccia, Porto Conte?? The bay is very deep so maybe there is shelter there, but again it will be deader than Fertilla even.
