Advice on UK marinas/areas for liveaboard (and any jobs...)

Bank account is a pain in the A without a residential address. You might find it easier to get a UK account opened via your Norwegian Bank.

Bank account is no problem with a marina address, but you need to have paperless statements etc if you don't want mail going to the marina.

Thanks for the input! Yes, the fascilities seems decent. I will be staying for just one year, of personal reasons.
Clearly you are not trying to tell us too much about why visit the UK. Its unusual to want to be in the UK by boat and not want to actually do a decent bit of sailing.

From what you've said I'm assuming that for some reason when you arrive in Denmark you need to prove you haven't lived in Norway for at least 12 months.

Did others spell it out...don't mention liveaboard when enquiring.
Actually if you aren't fussed where you end up and want to be able to show residency - it might be a good idea to be 'legitimate'. I'm not sure I could be comfortable living aboard knowing that there was always the possibility that the marina might suddenly say "Hey - no live aboards allowed... sling your hook"

London pays best and I know a few blokes who commute in from Medway area
Its also a stinking, cramped unfriendly place where no-one talks to anyone and where the cost of living is higher.

could effectively earn circa £100,000 in 12 months with £20,000 tax free and £80,000 taxed at 20% -- Now there's a bargain!
Wow... I'm off to get my HGV licence... $50k for 6 months work!

Some people will want paper documents. Not sure how easy it is to print things - guessing you don't have a printer on-board?

To prove residency in the UK typically companies will check the electoral register. If I understand the rules correctly you wouldn't be entitled to vote so wouldn't be able to be on the register. That doesn't make things impossible, but I can see it makes life harder... If proving residence in the UK needs to have had things like a bank account, utility bills etc then you will need to make sure you have those things. Interestingly, address checks usually ask for a utility bill (Gas, Electric, Water, Council Tax) but exclude mobile phones. You may struggle to have any of that in a Marina...

From years living onboard with too much time in the UK in marinas from Dartmouth to London, it's just not like that. If anything is going to kick off you'll have lots of notice, if not from from the office then the other boats will have been gossiping about it from ages, stuff like that just doesn't happen overnight.

Yes, some nice countryside round the Medway but the towns are pretty horrible ;)

An update:

No answers from Gillingham Marina on my requests, so far. But from Hull Marina I got this inviting letter:

------------------------------------------
Thank you for your recent enquiry.
We would be delighted to welcome you to Hull Marina next year, we have showers, laundry facilities and reasonably priced electricity in addition to fuel, boat lifting facilities etc. Residential moorings are also provided with a post box and 1 wash and 1 drier token per week.
We look forward to seeing you in 2018.
Regards
Peter

Now that's how you answer a liveaboard request! I know nothing about Kingston-upon-Hull, or the surrounding area. I will make a road trip in UK in April, by motorbike. It seems to be some activity in the job market in the Hull area as well, but maybe not as much as near London?

In addition there is a 'Scandinavian' social centre / seamans church (http://www.danchurchhull.co.uk) within a 1/4 mile walk of the marina and all the pubs you could wish for too......also very cheap!
