Batteries are like a pint of Guinness.
Bear with me. I know what you're thinking, "What is the daft ould bugr on about now?"My neighbour bought an electric boat, ( well mostly, still has a diesel engine). Anyways he has no idea how it all works and has problems, that's another post, and the look of panic on his face when I asked him questions was priceless, but no one learns in a state of panic. So I had to find a way to explain things, so this weekend it was batteries, and pouring a pond of Guinness seemed a good way to explain it. Now when you pour a pint, you tip the glass to get the most in ( that's your bulk), then to get more in we then move the glass and slowly top it up ( absorption), once it's full we then put the glass on the bar to stand. While we've been filling it up, it's all mixed up, but when you let it stand, the Guinness settles and now you can see how much you have, ( the batteries have equalised and the monitor shows the voltage). Are you with me so far, good. Now when you drink ( load) the Guinness gets a bit swirly again, now you've had a drink but still not sure what's really left, so you leave it and it settles and now you can see how much is left, the Guinness level is like the monitor it shows the current voltage level. ( I have shortened this explanation otherwise it's boring for those who know and remember this is Batteries For Dummies and we did discuss keeping the batteries above 12.2V).
There you have it,
