Adding to my 'toys' ..... Cherry Picker.

With problems at my masthead and some others with mast problems in the harbour ... (I also have to paint the house etc) ... I have been looking at Cherry Picker ......

With my boats masthead at 18m from waterline .... and the alongside wharf being approx 4m above Water level ... I can get away with about 12 - 13m lift height ... (Of course I would prefer to have 18m height .. but that is serious money !).

Guy is selling a Simon Topper light trailer CP with a chair height of 13m. Went to see it yesterday - but guy had let the 4 deep cycle large batterys run down and not charged over winter. It would not start up. Condition was cosmetically sad where it had stood outside etc. But with manual pump - all worked.
Question is what damage to electrical control system .....

Made offer subject to him getting it working ... which he was not happy about, but agreed - in fact my offer is similar to what one in Sweden in working order would cost ..

I left and went off across Latvia to another seller who had heavy tractor farm rollers I need to roll flat my proposed Model Flying ground. Successful deal and went back today with trailer to collect - bring home.

Today had a chat on phone with Cherry Picker guy .. who said he has not had chance to work on it ... so I offered lower figure to take as is .. saving him the job of fixing it. Now I wait while he thinks about it ... as I see it - his choice is spend 700 - 800 on replacing the batterys ... maybe a few hoses / cables here and there .... clean it up ... and then try sell again. Or just take my offer and have no hassle.

Let's see what happens ....
When are you going to open your own boatyard? :D

That actually was a plan a couple of years back ... but the land we wanted for it - seller refused to sell to a 'non-local' .....

Idea was to concentrate on the motor boats - as the river has 3 bridges and power cables preventing sail-boats navigating freely.
I was joking, but yeah makes a lot of sense now. Maybe some other place then. I am sure there's some plot of land somewhere for you.

The plan was an area to provide boat repairs, storage and general support. Plus a Model Activities - planes / cars / boats ..... with camping facilities as well.
We had negotiations on a 6ha plot ... agreement with Local Authorities for the change of use ... but then seller announced she would not sell to a 'foreigner' .... we looked for another plot - but none were as good as this one. It had a 300m river bank and local authorities were already planning to improve road and adjacent area.

Do you have local friends who can buy it and then just transfer over to you?

Too late .... but anyway - we did try and she was adamant she was selling to her 'friend' .....

In terms of such tranaction ... buy and hand over - not so simple ... as the Tax laws here would immedaitely kick in and it would mean Govt would get two tax payments ... a) when friends buy .... b) when transfered to me ...

No - its pure unadulterated Nationalism ..... its too often seen here.

I support patriotism ... be proud of your country / nationality ... but nationalism drives me nuts ... it spoils everything.
Because of nationalism she won’t sell you her ´made in Japan*’ machine ?🤷🏼‍♂️🤔😳

*inset country of origin

I'm sure you don't want to spend mega-bucks, but I've never liked these lightweight machines that rely on outriggers. I'm happier with a big iron counterweight.
Damn things are everywhere here ATM, they're pruning all the Palm Trees.

Sounds like a good deal….he probably got it working…but perhaps a temporary fix
Is it at a price where you feel comfortable taking on a project ?

Its real value is still lower than his asking price ... even if he got it working - which I doubt.

The engine / hydraulic system will not start unless it has a full good bank of batterys ... it has 4 heavy duty 200AH batterys ... which were totally dead.
Guy tried to get it working by just connecting the charger ... a piddly little Cretek unit that would be better suited for Motorcycle battery !!

Yeah, I'd stay away from that. Sounds dodgy. If you can't get it started, it's a can of worms and definitely not in full working condition.
