Posted in here as it is a bit too small for the Mobo section.

I am looking for a liitle day fisher to use in Turkey, and have been sent a link to a 14 ft Dory with central binnacle controls and with a bimini/sun canopy. Boat looks just the right size to take myself and one or two friends out in when the wind is not blowing enough to take the sail boat out. No real intention to catch any fish, just go fishing.

Any way it has a 15 hp 2 stroke O/B, is this big enough? I am not looking for power boat performance, just something that is a bit quicker and bigger than my 2.7 m inflatable tender with its 3.3 mercury.

Seller says that with two large men aboard it will easily do 10 knts, is this realistic?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

We used a CJR 14 as kids on Windermere. It has a dory type hull with a small cuddy on the front. It had a 30hp 2 stroke on it and would just about get on the plane with a couple of adults (Or 4 kids) on board.

I think the claim of 10kts with a 15 hp is realistic, but it will pushing a lot of water at that speed. I would guess it would still do 7kts with half throttle, much quieter and more comfortable.

I have one the same but with tiller control.

It will only get on the plane with a clean hull and a couple of people on board if they go way forward.

I would suggest that you need a 25 or 30 to plane easily.

Due to its low free board it is no use in other than calm or minimal conditions.

Otherwise unsinkable and reasonably well built.

If you want something with a bit better sea capability I would suggest that you look elsewhere either a larger cathedral hull or a mono hull.
