Coastal Skipper Course, YM Coast exam prep & YM Offshore Prep

Jimi, why don't we just leave it here? We must be boring the arses off everyone else and we probably both have useful things to contribute to discussions of training. It's all getting a bit silly.

Is this the way YBW members normally behave?

A man who can play the bagpipes but refrains from doing so.

Could you try to keep the personal abuse out of this? I'm an easy going, friendly type with little experience of RYA courses and I have absolutely no idea why the OP has chosen to get so vitriolic at me. I don't know how many times I have to say that I defer to his experience and would value...

I'm up for it. How about you, Jimi? No tongues, mind.

Is this the way YBW members normally behave?

There is no qualifying exam to be a YBW member. Most people here are, in my experience nice, friendly and helpful - and if there is the occasional paranoid fruitcake (don't I know it ) or broken promise around, that's just the grand scheme of things and not worth worrying about. For...

Well, I think you've now said you did the Coastal Skipper practical course twice. Is that right? Which part of "Private Message" is causing you problems?

Anchor Set Up for (Very) Small Yachts?

Real CQRs have proper hot forged shanks, which makes them jolly strong and, more to the point, jolly tough. You can practically tie them in a know before they'll break. Copies are generally cast, which is simpler, cheaper, weaker and brittler. It's not necessarily a deal-breaked, though. S-L...

How can I get a new HIN number

I am sure that insurers will take that into account when setting their premiums anyway, so I doubt if you'll get any discount from anyone. It's a bit like classic car insurance not giving rebates for a winter layup, since they assume that most classics are laid up in the winter anyway.

    Downsizing your boat

Have you read Sam Llewellyn's Minimum Boat columns in PBO, or the collected set in a book? He downsized to sail a Shrimper 19 and makes a very strong case for the joys of smaller boats. Having just moved up from 21' to 26' I read his stuff with a certain wistfulness - but I do enjoy finally...

I have asked him about this a couple of times on Another Thread but alas have not been able to get a clear reply, Perhaps, Jimi, you could confirm here, since I am obviously not the only person who would like to know?

I would be grateful if you could, on this thread, refrain from the personal attacks on me which have so blighted two others now. I have no idea why you persist in this behaviour and I don't much care. Please try to keep this one civil. That said, I am happy to repeat that my practical sailing...
