    Disaster waiting to happen .

Blimey, Vic, a real”Captain Calamity”. Strange, the Skipper who piled his maiden voyage 10 year in restoration yacht on the rocks at the north side of the Barfleur side entrance to the Cherbourg Grand Rade was a German too.

Collision Between Small Craft and Ship, River Mersey

+1 to that Pete, they put the wind up me sometimes, and i've cruised Wayfarers extensively. At least the French ones are limited to 6nm and have to do a basic course. In the winter(all year, come to that) you get regular vhf shouts to assist "small fishing/motor" boats "broken down off...."...

    Scary stormy night .

+100, Vic, hope all goes well, hang in there, it has been an evil season most places in Europe this year. If it's not too much wind, it's none and fog/rain out of firehoses! Dick

Boating on a budget - Scottish boat show talk

Buy Services surplus/mountaineering/canoeing kit- tends to be better and cheaper than 'marine'. If you get to France, everything is cheaper in the Fishermens Coops at St Malo & Paimpol than UK. Even with £/Euro at moment. Get a one ring electric cooker when Nisbets are having a sale-saves a...

Crossing with Confidence - John Goode

Nah, its the same one we met above Cape Kullan in 1998, one bloke cleaning the deck and no one on the bridge-both doors open. I see they've got an Extra Master o/bd now- the dog!!!! Still got those books on board-good stuff- when yer alternator goes shut halfway across with a N tail wind AND...

Brittany Ferries ban lifejackets on "safety" grounds

Sounds to me like time to talk to the Maire at destination, the Regional Prefecture(tourisme), the local Chamber de Commerce, stand back and watch the blood flow! Never underestimate the power of the local CdeC against French bureaucrats-they do not like that sort of attitude-stops the tills...

    Has something changed UKBF?

I hope the number is up to date, about 12months ago, I spent a small fortune trying to contact UKBF ahead of possibly acquiring an SA crew member in France and returning to UK with them. The HMRC National Yacht Line had a phone no, but out of date with no updated number by UKBF Head Office to...

    Studland bay,

Absolutely, you can almost set your calendar and watch by SBS having a day out from the 'office'. Verb. Sap.; Don't think it's wise to use the "B?*tN*@k" word round a "Royal" mind;)
