Did you check the aftercoolers aren’t choked with oil ?
Tried boost gauges in the inlet manifold ?
Props are definitely a6 ?
Tun it out of a drum ?
Checked the fuel oft pump and internal filter (if it’s an early one)
I’m not sure what ratio mine are although I have tried a pair of drives which...
Thanks for the response. It’s more the mess the oil is making !
I have put a washer in but yet to try the engine again
Have been looking at a racor ccv sealed system
I’m aware it could be a worn engine but don’t yet feel keen enough to take that project on
So for arguments sake, you buy a boat and re engine with Volvo penta D anything that will also in time have exactly the same issue un supported ECUs
Is there even a solution as the world moves to eco and electronics ?
Then read on a few posts from Volvo Paul “take the drive off and do it properly”
I always remove the drives not much more work and you don’t open up a drive to oil / water ingress.
Exactly Scala but with a dedicated thread maybe Volvo might take notice
If Volvo penta treat any engine over 15 years old as electronically obsolete that follows for every engine they currently make making the boats without vast investment worthless
And seeing as every engine is computer...
this thread at the moment means any Volvo powered electronic engine at 15 years old is effectively without serious investment of maybe move than the boats actual value is a static house boat
They are b20 Volvo engines as fitted to p1800 cars maranised
Watch the front raw water pump when the seal wears it pumps raw water straight in to the engine oil ways
You will also need to factor that in exhaust trumpets as the 31 all coolant water goes down the trumpet but 41 has a second relief pipe I believe
The 31 defiantly have a resale value to off set. You may get away with just propping to suit the ratios in the drives but that’s going to be trial...
I would agree with Ferris re if you want the 200hp buy a boat with them
However replacing engines would be straight forward they aren’t hard to remove and re fit, looms would match
Drives would need checking for ratios but not impossible to work out as it’s all proved by Volvo
Cost wise...
