Storm Tactics - Parachute Anchor on Fleabay!

It's been a long time since I visited this forum. I did the 2008 JAC and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly clear to me that any chance I have of going again in the next 10 or 15 years has diminished beyond the point where I can justify...

2004 edition of Atlantic Islands Pilot Book

Hello, I have a 2004 edition of Anne Hammick's Atlantic Islands pilot book. Which has been in my loft since I got back from JAC2008. Good condition (you wouldn't think it had been to sea). Happy to give it to anyone starting the JAC2016. Paul Mead informs me that he will be travelling over to...

    Centaur experience

This must be a record! I also did the 2008 Jester and the last time I was bought a beer on the strength of it was about 2 years ago. Well done Alan! Paul

    Jester in his blood

This is one way to do it: http://web.media.mit.edu/~tim/pix/cuba.html Only works in warm climes though! Some interesting stuff on the psychological effects of being too isolated, wet, hungry, thwarted for too long. Paul

Jester mini challenge - June 16

I think this is a great idea. However, it seems that it is time to leap to the defense of the 'no rules - behave like gentlemen / women' ethos of Jester, again. I have read the relevant page at jesterinfo and see many new rules have appeared (we are up to 17 now). Worse; some PDF of...

    Spinnaker/scaffold pole

I just sold my 13 1/2 foot spinnaker pole - don't use a spinnaker single handed. Every time I used the thing, the sail wrapped around the rig and I brained myself with the pole. Gave up. I have an old Tornado bowsprit (bit like a windsurfer mast). I use it as a jib stick for goosewinging. Paul

    Plastimon Neptune Installation Without Gimbals

Hello All, Long time since I've been around here. I am rebuilding the galley on my catamaran. I've been donated an old Plastimo Neptune and am looking to refurbish and install it. Any tips or info appreciated. I don't need to fit it in gimballs (if my cat is heeling at 30deg then I'm not...

    Dropping out

Thanks for your comments Malcolm. Buying a house this year so out of money/time. But I may tap you up next summer. Yvette might take to med yottin'. Good luck with your prep. Lady C; you need to get me propped up against a bar with a pint or two of decent ale and the wisdom born of experience...

    Dropping out

I guess this is the place to reveal that I will not be coming in 2012. Developments at work mean that I will need to keep my eye on the ball at that time - Gutted! Boat is still good to go after 2008 (I'd board the windows up this time though). Best of luck to those who manage to get away! Paul

    Dropping out

Boredom is one of the challenges - quite stressfull if you think about it. I remember a qoute that went something like... "All the troubles in the world are because man cannot sit alone in a room." Or something like that. Anyway: Any decision that doesn't kill you is the right one! Cheers Paul

    This time next year

As you get further from the coast you might be more interested in synoptic charts than coastal forecasts: http://www.stronge.org.uk/charts/ I was recieving fax code via short wave radio en route and could display these charts on a PC. I guess you could have a satelite link if funds permitted...
