Hi
I’m just starting a new build upon a hull and deck moulding purchased recently from a garden in Plymouth
The yacht has never touched water.
Build will include new engine on saildrive
80 % will be all new equipment
Totally new interior.
I tink it all about visability.
If conditions allow a reasonable chance of maintaining visual contact then clip on can be more of a hindrance.
Certainly clip on at night, in fog or sailing alone on deck.
Assess the risk and act accordingly. Common sense with risk assessment should prevail
Well built yachts indeed.
However i am somewhat of mixed feeling about raising keels, particularly for offshore class A yachts.
Clearly the engineering is excellent. The expense must be considerable and this is reflected in the cost of these yachts.
Any offshore experience requires a sturdy no...
Having visited the Karpaz gate marina whilst under construction and most recently in September this year.
The standard of consruction is very good indeed.
It was confirmed that a member of staff had been killed by faulty electrics.
Without doubt the Republic of Cyprus (southern Cyprus) will do...
Have you thought of Karpaz Gate Marina ...Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
I am en route from Glasgow, currently in Portugal aim to get there some time next year.
Cheaper than Turkey and Greece though access is only via Turkey or from the Republic of Cyprus.
We did Biscay last Month and west coast of Portugal this Month.
57knt wind for 15 hours but took the right decision to stay well offshore. As long as you have the boat, strong crew and atitude to get through. These conditions are do-able
Atlantic coast of Portugal can be rather threatening in a...
I too am interested in getting on this adventure.
Currently sailing Glasgow to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. New Marina there is very well equiped and some good berthing offers on. I think some yachts will depart from here for the rally.
Biscay and western portugal
Currently en route Glasgow to Cyprus.
The most challenging leg is Scilly isles to Lagos Portugal.
Beware: Biscay on a bad day (s), cape Finistere often blows 2 forces over forecast.
Visit Lisbon and ride the yellow electric 1900,s trams but the estuary exit can be...
Never heared of any chain issues when it comes to anchors. In my view carry the biggest anchor you canplus a spare and as much chain as is possible and practical.
It is always good to have if a situation demands getting a grip onto solid ground.
West Coast Portugal
We are currently in Pria de variz ( i think i have spelt it correctly) just North of Porto.
Did biscay La Coruna about 3 weeks ago. Severe gale 11 for 6 hours was not much fun!
Will be moving south to Lisbon end of October and thence on to Gib for winter rest.
Lisbon...
I have seen so many many posted views upon the way to take care of teak.
My island packet came with several coats of CETOL to its guard rail teak. In places the coatings had been compromised and loked terrible.
About two years ago a chemically striped the coatings to reveal the natural teak.
Yes...
There is a relly usefull set of straps on E-bay by "carrymaster". Excellent value simple to fit with instructions and you get a strap for each leg so comfortable to wear.
