    Nation flag - common practice

Hi. I´m writing an article for a Swedish Cruising magazine "Pa Kryss" about rules and practice concerning nation flags, and guest flags when sailing abroad. In Sweden the rule regarding nation flags are, hoisting 08.00 and down at sunset, but not later than 21.00. The same with a guest flag...

Any Southerly 115 in Portsmouth area?

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I will get in touch with Northshore. But when looking at their website they only seem to have S 115 mk IV´s in Itchenor, a boat far beyond our budget! Thats why we are looking for a mk I and II, probably we cannot even strech ourselves to a mk III.

Any Southerly 115 in Portsmouth area?

Hi! Me and my wife are thinking of buying a new yacht, slighly smaller and with less draft. The Southerly 115 mkI-III is high on the list. But none of these yachts have ever been sold to Sweden, so me and my wife haven´t yet got a chance to see one in real life. Is there by chance anyone in...

[ QUOTE ] I am sure you will make it beautiful-inside and out ! Colour of hull makes an enormous difference . Seriously,I was impressed with what such a little boat could deliver (the 7.7)... You going to sail it away or do the whole fitout yourself? [/ QUOTE ] Thanks. No finite decisions...

    Bi-loup - Wrighton Yard

[ QUOTE ] True. Bit like houses though-starkest condo development has view of pretty thatched cottages.... Imagine if moorings were arranged according to aesthetics [/ QUOTE ] Does not bother me. The problem is yours, I'm sailing the boat while you are watching! But seriously - the boat...

    Bi-loup - Wrighton Yard

Hello! Anybody with a Bi-loup made by the Wrighton Yard in France? The Bi-loup 36 looks like a great boat for my needs: http://www.wrightonyachts.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=11&Itemid=13 But these boats are totally unknown in Sweden and I would like to know more about build...

    Best keel for drying out?

I’m looking for a shallow draft boat, less than 11 metres and less than 1,5 meters draft capable taking the ground when cruising. The boat must be able doing offshore cruising and our budget is less than £ 45-50k. A swing keel Southerly 105 is high on the list but there might be others, like...

    Navtex, Weatherman... Anything else?

[ QUOTE ] Navtex Weatherman provides very limited coverage. It is great in France where there are plenty of alternative sources of weather information. It is very patchy in southern Europe and the Med (by Madeira reception cannot be expected) , it cannot be received in most of Norway. It is...

    CANALS AND ICE

I live in Stockholm and keep my boat afloat all year around. Have done so since 1992. Every winter she´s stuck in the ice from end of December to mid March. The thickest ice I´ve experienced so far was 70 cm, but normally the ice is about 20 cms. I can assure you there is absolutely no problems...

Swing keels when taking the ground

I asked about bilge keels a few weeks ago and got a lot of good response. But some people suggested that a swing keel would be more suitable for my cruising plans; canals and drying out along tidal coasts in different areas like the North sea, Scotland/Ireland, Brittany and northern Spain. Since...

    Volga- Moscow Waterway

There was a Swedish yacht going from St. Petersburg to Moscow about 7-8 years ago. They continued beyond Moscow and ended up in the Black Sea. Unfortunately I´ve lost contact with the skipper and there is no documentation of the journey. He had some official invitation from some kind of yachting...

    Mediteranean Morocco

Was in Tangier spring 2005 and stayed more than a week. Friendly and safe with 24 h guard overlooking the 'marina'. Dirty yes, somewhat. But which major port is not dirty? The markets are fanatstic and the food as well. Go there!

    Twin/bilge keels, what to expect?

Boatmike, I very much agree with you. We experienced a lot of problems getting close enough to get ashore in the french canals last year with our Moody ketch having a draft of 1,8. Still we sometimes did better than smaller boats with less draft because of our 4m + beam. Obviously 1,8 m draft 2...
