I have a Volvo D2-55, and the advice I received from a deisel engine mechanic that any 15-40 diesel mineral oil will be fine - but must be MINERAL. Read somewhere that synthetic and semi-synthetic are not suitable for these engines.

General response was not favourable. I went with 2 x 220 ah Victron AGM's in the end.
Have fitted one to my boat - very simple DIY job ( fit "in line" on shore power earth cable just insde the shore power socket ). Good insurance at c. £ 100.

A height restriction in the available space eliminates quite a few of the better known battery names.
As we spend several of the summer months on the boat, I am not too worried about the weight as long as we have a reliable supply
Planning to replace 2 x 140 AH flooded lead acid batteries with the biggest AH capacity I can fit in to the available space.
Have seen a 220AH FLA battery by Elecsol which reads well in the brochure, but is a bit light on any detailed information and the company has had some bad press on...
