    Cavtat Croatia

Cavtat was the only place in the whole of Croatia where we experienced being ripped off. It's really unfortunate that the town exploits its position as the most southerly exit point. The rest of the town is fine but the attitude of the port authority means it is best avoided if at all possible.

    Volvo 130S saildrive anode-new

one Volvo Zinc ring kit model 3888305 for saildrive 130S. This came with my new boat but as I fitted an ambassador stripper which requires a modified anode this one is redundant. Unused (obviously!) and still in original blue Volvo box. £51 new will accept £30. Too heavy to post so collections...

In Croatia - where are the Brits?

Richard We obviously missed the magic of Trogir. Sure it has some fine buildings but compared to Split or Korcula nothing spectacular. The medieval back streets are great but dominated by tourist shops and again no better than Split, Starigrad etc. What ruined Trogir for us were the thousands of...

In Croatia - where are the Brits?

I've now written a bit more about cruising in Croatia on our blog at http://www.lyrasailing.com/review to cover the good and not so good we have discovered in the last twelve months

In Croatia - where are the Brits?

We've cruised the entire coat over the last twelve months and endorse the warm and friendly comments above. There are definitely more Brits around the Dubrovnik area than further north we have found. I think Germans and Austrians dominate in the north as they can drive down to Pula or Zadar in...

    Late Sail

Hi. We used them twice and they are fine and helpful. they essentially act as a broker to offer discounted inventory so that the charter company doesn't have to on its own website. The first time was with Sunsail in the BVI and the second was Phoenix in turkey.

    Elan 31

I sailed an Elan 31 for 9 years and often single-handed. It's a great boat, fast, responsive and easy to tune to sail fast. Sailing alone was fine apart from dropping and packing the main but an autohelm tiller pilot sorted that. Below it is not great for headroom (I am 6'0"and had to duck in...

    uv resistant clothing

Try bamboo. We use www.bambooclothing.co.uk but there are other brands. Its UV resistant and BO resistant too. Its also a fair bit cheaper than the Musto and HL stuff

Which new instrument system, B&G Triton or Raymarine?

Another vote for the Zeus/Triton from B&G. Excellent kit and the tacking laylines are excellent. I was persuaded down to three Tritons and that's plenty as you can set each one up to scroll key information too. A word of warning that's not in the manual though. In the summer we got back to our...

Beneteau first 20 or Elan 210??

I owned a Benny 211 and then an Elan 31 and I have to say that the Elan is much better built and sailed very well. If you buy the benny make sure you have the keel mechanism thoroughly checked- see other threads on the issue.

a location based thread for Liveaboard Link

I do use captain's mate as a CA member and it's quite good but obviously not open to all users so less useful for crowd sourcing information. Cruising wiki should be the answer and I have recently updated some Croatian anchorages but I was the first person to have added to them since 2005 so...

a location based thread for Liveaboard Link

This forum often contains great user generated content about specific locations- the recent thread about Rhodes Marina is a good example and this could be really useful as additional input to out-of-date cruising guides. I'm sure that Rod H's publishers are less than keen on up to the minute...
