I sailed an Elan 31 for 9 years and often single-handed. It's a great boat, fast, responsive and easy to tune to sail fast. Sailing alone was fine apart from dropping and packing the main but an autohelm tiller pilot sorted that. Below it is not great for headroom (I am 6'0"and had to duck in certain parts) and the doors are not made for fat people but it's a performance cruiser not a cruiser with a bit of performance. PM me if you want more info. Only sold mine for bigger boat for longer distance cruising.

It applies more to long keel Holman designs. Well known for downwind rolling 45 to 45. Very uncomfortable on a Northerney 34, but did not affect the boat speed compared to other racing boats. Used to envy the fin and skeg boats sailing along bolt upright.

I crewed a Bowman 45 for a while & that rolled horrendously
I also crewed on a UFO 34 that only ever raced & that still had Kim's special roll though not so bad as my 2 Stellas
