That much, obviously, is transparently clear

As I said, if you don't want to contribute, then don't. No one is holding a gun to your head. It's a bit like watching TV; if you don't like what is on, then switch it off or get rid of it. It's really not that hard.... even a child could do it.

Ahhh but you have already had 675 and counting, free opportunities to advertise your own blog on this site, via your signature.

Look upon it as a service for the web challenged, whose ability does not go beyond taking pictures and emailing them to people.

Putting them on a website takes some extra steps

they are saving us time

The gmail might be a way of having a temporary account that they can close at any time

so her inbox does not get bunged up with bollix

all perfectly above board it seems to me

I have not been paid a penny by this lovely magazine from which this truly great forum takes its name.

I have written half a dozen bits for PBO over the past 35 years.

Who was paying the checks for the pieces I have no idea ... could have been time warner, could have been the old IPC, could have been reed publishing... too far back to remember. They all used readers letters and did not pay for them. Lest we forget this was a time when selling a yacht meant a significant investment in buying advertising space in the back of these sailing mags

Pages and pages of them..... all gone.

It is a tough life being a print on paper hack

Give these people a break

they might work for time warner

but they are not time warner

Dylan - semi retired hack and realist

Well I've put forward my little story for possible inclusion in any future articles. Whether it is of interest to anyone is another matter. I did two threads on it elsewhere if anyone wishes to assess my credentials as a potential 'victim' of plagiarism.

I'm with Shan and Dylan on this. A website which improves through user generated content is giong to be better than one which doesn't. If you like that idea, contribute. If you don't, then don't. But you can still enjoy using the website for free, either way.

I can't see the point in whining about it, although I realise that's a default position for many on this forum.

This is like the auditions for 'A Christmas Carol'. We have any amount of potential Scrooges. A few potentials for the various ghosts of Christmas Past, Present & Future but who will be Tiny Tim? ;)

After Dylan's initial intervention, this has to be the post of the thread!

( Someone will now tell us you plagiarised it from somewhere, but I don't care.)

If Stef wants contributions, why not set this up as a sticky at the top of the forum?
A few of you have sent me pictures of your boats, some genius ideas you've come up with for your crafts and so forth. I'd like to see more! And not just that, I'd like to share your videos and pictures on YBW.com, for all to see.
Then it is up to individuals whether they wish to contribute. My own thought is it should have its own distinct section on the forum, then the person who has provided the content gets recognition.

Perhaps you might like to advertise for some people with boats to write your news articles, because it certainly doesn't look as if your current incumbents have the slightest level of knowledge...

Here's a challenge ...... has anyone ever made a post criticising another posters spelling, grammar or punctuation without making their own spelling, grammar or punctuation error/s in their own post?

I tried it once and failed miserably, as has ChanelYacht, as already pointed out by JerryTug. :(

My take on this is it seems a great idea for another 'forum' but apart from dear old Dylan no one seems to have taken Stef up on this. So many seem to have a jaundiced view - they really are not getting the enjoyment out of life, that they might. When and if more time were available to me I would go for it
- yeah I realise reading these threads is using up my time!

Ahem, cough cough.

How would you know, other than anecdotally from the responses here? Stef asked for submissions to be emailed to her gmail account. I hope she got a better response than some of the apparent jaundice suggests, I'm looking forward to seeing what she does with them :)

I would not have a problem granting Time Inc. a license to use my material, and I'm already in favour of free information (my Crete Pilot has always been free for example). I would however like a guarantee that any material I submitted would always credit me as the author (or photographer) whenever and wherever it was used. Partly this is because I am proud of those good things (IMO) that I produce and I want the credit, but also because a publisher seeing enough good work from me might be tempted to commission me to do something for real money.

We give Time Inc. material to help boost their revenues (from the website principally) and we get free advertising. Not a bad deal for both parties I think?
