The trouble with this list is it is so misleading (at least to the forumites who know these places) that it demeans every other article in the magazine.
The whole magazine ends up devalued as a consequence. If the article instead had canvassed 'readers' best ten waterside pubs it would be different.
Would you be 'more' or 'less' likely to buy the magazine as a result of this article?
Less would be my response.

+1, a piece of 'puff/freebie journalism', it appears to me. the MB for pity's sake- I have known crews go hungry and almost thirsty rather than go in:D

The Master Builder comes in at #4 with the glowing recommendation "As well as enjoying a great selection of ales, you can soak up the sunshine in the hotel's garden bar, which plays host to a fantastic BBQ in the summer."

I don't the the Master Builder is great; I think it's a rubbish rip-off ...and so do most sailors I think.

+ another.

Lovely location. Ok beer. IMHO mediocre food (especially the BBQ which, again IMHO, is poor value for money). Now, whenever I spend the night on the River Beaulieu, I plan to eat on board. Even with my cooking....

Anchor Bleu, on the other hand. Gets my vote. :encouragement: And the food in the Jolly Sailor was pretty good on both of my recent visits.

Did the Chain Locker at Falmouth get a mention ? Happy memories of that place, my platonic ladyfriend still talks about the ' lock in ' with the Grove Park HM and a lot of Russian cadets from square riggers...and that must have been aound 1989 :)

Nothing wrong with MB. It has giant chess and a hill to roll down and serves icecream. Are you aged older than 8???

Took seven people there last month. While the queue at the bar was three deep the manager and sidekick were contemplating how to put a sign up. All guests disappointed with food, worst was the ploughman's lunch which should really be called manky ham with vegetable peelings.
