Yesterday I was observing the 5 knot speed limit when a yot came thundering up on my stern quarter, he tacks and comes straight at me, but has to course change to miss me.

Sound like you are in the right and as overtaking boat the yacht should have given way to you. It isn't always power boats in the wrong!!

Sounds like he did give way - he missed him.

for god's sake Brenden grow up !!!! will you not let up on constantly being nasty to. well, just about everyone on here, I am also, from your reply some weeks ago, also "common fodder" I assume this to mean I am now to receive even nastier remarks than those in general you put out.

We go BOATING, we have a boat, I am with HLB when he goes boating, he is no danger, I have been BOATING for many, many years, and I can see this for myself, so I can assure you this is true. HLB hasn't harmed anyone in all the years he has been BOATING.

& Yes raggie's do deliberately get in the way sometimes. I can sail, and can also see this.

I got rammed by a small yacht a couple of years ago. He then proceeded to shout at me for a full five minutes and then for a further five minutes at his wife who was on the foredeck attempting to fend us off. He then apologised and asked if we would like a cup of tea.

At the time of the incident we were moored up to the riverbank at Brundall enjoying lunch and had been for the past hour. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Clearly your fault then. When imbibing, ones head should be swivelling like a Meerkat on guard duty.

Hello Stella

Par for the Medway on a weekend, I'm afraid. At least they rarely venture much downstream of Kingsnorth Power Station.

Aim to go around as many sterns as possible.

Welcome to the Medway, by the way.

Well it was, but that was more due to the party of Dutch students in bikinis on the next boat. Girlfriend was very impessed with me squeezing the boat into a tiny mooring to avoid her having to walk far to the shop until she saw our neighbours. . . . . /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

And to think, I took Brendan off ignore, just a few weeks ago. I must be going soft in the head.

Yep T25. Is there no old crap boat some where for Brendan. I think he's going insane. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My fleet is reserved for use by those of a sunnier disposition /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif however , maybe if he spent less time tailgating in here and more time looking for one I'm sure he'd find something /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: yachties! on the Mudway.......

Something like this..............

Best thing is to ease right back and aim for an area with the least sails.
There again my boat hull is so full of dings and scratches already, a few more merely adds to the patina. One of the advantages of owning a boat older than anything else you are likely to collide with.
All scars are worn with pride, esp the particularly imppressive gel coat gouge collected at a Thames lock, with the entire world + assorted swan uppers watching when I attempted to moor up while still in gear.
There are a half dozen sailing clubs in the immediate area and the reach is the favorite area to do battle.
It will no doubt add to your confidence that one of the local outfits normally bus in a couple of coach loads of "yoofs"(male and female) from inner London boroughs and let um loose on the river for their first experiences of sailing and probably of bring outside Tower Hamlets. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hope to see you out there some time, hopefully off to The Southend Air show over weekend.

Came up against the yachting packs myself a few years ago, hell bent on their newly taught Colreg lessons, that they are right and everyone else is wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Most of the time for us, boating is related to fishing, rod/line or towing a small net.

A tip we were given if the yachties get cocky, Plot a course, raise the fishing boat markers, chuck out the net, and Sod the lot of them. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Not caught any yachts yet but quite a few have pooped their pants when they realize that we are not able/going to change course. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You could always pop up the anchor ball, drop the anchor just under the surface and run round the boat in seudo panic yelling "I'm dragging, I'm dragging" ... most mobos are considered far beneath the yachties so they'll believe your incompetence! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Out here in Lagos the yachties are a really great bunch of people and have been incredibly helpful to me since I arrived 2 months ago.

One recent happening made me smile though. On Mon, Wed and Fri mornings we have a (somewhat illegal) broadcast on channel 77 of safety and other matters. Generally locals will offer to help if someone has a problem. Its run by one of the ex-pats out here and he does a super job.

I offered to help last week - and the controller broadcast my offer as follows:-

"For those who dont know The Ancient Mariner, he's just arrived on berth XX, and he's a motorboater, but despite this he's quite normal."

SWMBO overheard this and stuck her head out into the cockpit and I got the inevitable:-

"He doesnt know you very well yet does he?" /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
