Yacht breaks up off Anvil Point

hmmmm, i realise little information is available on the actual pre boat/cliff engament...but something doesnt add up to me....
Heading from anvil point, home to lymington, i make an easterly heading ( got me own compass)
The times report the boat to have been damaged on the starboard side, yet the rocks would be on the port side, unless either there are submerged rocks, if there are, i sure dont know about any.
or,,,the boat made a sizable turn, 180 degress, at some point. Would are captain not have noticed this slight change in course? and returned to his post? especialy if under sail!!!?
Any comments?

was it definitely sailing? the photos I saw, albeit early this morning so may be wrong, showed the boat pre sinking and I assumed it was under power?

plain lack of common sense!

Just been on a training course at work and was told that you cannot assume such a thing as common sense.... not everyone can be as gifted as us... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They packed them away just after the collision - didn't want to get them dirty /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

ah, i only saw one picture, and may have jumped the gun a little. Fairly sure i saw some sail though. Still not sure how she was holled on the opposite side to that of the rocks.

I call dibs on the bottle of gin.

i just posted the video footage, click on the link, then you need the bottem right posting, anvil point 01/05/06 or somthing like that

By the way, these bennys are pricey. 250k?? Should we tell him he could get a same sized Bavaria for half that !

No he wouldn't have been interested... probably read something about them sinking somewhere... didn't want a chance of that /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Just thinking though... I am assuming that it is his boat... what if its not?? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Can't see why he would want one that big if it is just for the two of them...

what?
borrowed? surely no one would be so, ummm, stupid!
part owened? maybe...surely no one would be so, ummm, stupid!
hahaha

She almost certainly will when they get home.... I imagine that will be the end of their sailing.....

YEP we will all have to start our sailing careers in 47 footers /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
thats 30 ft longer then my Silhouette Mk 2 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It will certainly go towards the campaign for mandatory licences/qualifications before being allowed to skipper, and no doubtedly insurance policies will increase with too many like this.... better hope you aren't with the same company as he was.... just how much would the insurance have been for that in his position - any brokers out there hazard a guess??

I have mixed feelings on the licensing issue.... everyone is entitled to their freedom, yet we have licences & points on the road, so why not the sea, its not as if the sea is safe... far from it. I think that there are a lot of people doing RYA courses, but maybe these aren't as challenging as what they could be... he certainly didn't learn anything on his comp crew or he wouldn't have bought it, let alone taken it out!!
