Worst boat names

Horrible Names

On our honeymoon we chartered in the Virgin Islands and the boat was called Avast Behind. I never once used the radio.

More recently we stopped in Mazagon and came across Crapula III. I speak reasonable spanish but that has no meaning (afaict) in Spanish

Ok one more.
In the 1970s in my innocent yooth I couldnt understand why all the fuss at an IOW fishing boat called MuffDiver. Eventually the owner added a very small s in front so from close up at least, sMuffDiver was a reputable working boat.

'Avast Behind', appealing!! Much more attractive than a narrow gutted one!!

I don't object to double meanings, so long as they are reasonably clever. I had a very good friend who kept his boat at Penton Hook marina on the Thames. He was also an obsessional angler, thus he chose the name Penton Hooker. It amused me then, it does now, despite continually having to explain to folk why a Broads boat should be so named!

'Legs Akimbo', another Broads based boat albeit London registered, has to be one of the all time most tasteless names that I have ever come across.

Does seem that tasteless names tend to be a motor boat thing.:D

And it's a pity, 'cos the red paint on the hull is faded and looks awful (not that Wakatere's spotless)

There's a fishing boat near Sultan Jetty called Castanet - I can't decide whether it's clever or awfully corny, but at least it's apt.

Crapula is Latin for hangover - a fellow classics student told me he found it easy to remember because he always had appalling crapulas with a hangover.

I generally find any boat name beginning with 'Lady' is a recipe involving pillocks who'd be better off on a gin palace mobo...

Hmmm......

Lady Fiona is named after my wife who died 3 years ago. It is also registered in Rye as that was her favourite place. And it has a Manx ensign as that is where we were married.....

and your problem is..????..

When the previous owners of a friends boat called it 'Candida', they obviously didn't have google nor a medicinal bent. The current owner calls his tender 'Thrush'.:o

Candida is the latin for "dazzling white" and was formerly a reasonably common girl's name. Its popularity does seem to have declined in recent decades, however.

I suppose it would be quite a good name in a handicap class of racing boat, for the scratch boat!
