Don't tell me - they caught on a pot line ... and the CG had to call "Bikini bottom, have you got it off yet?" ... ;)

My Trapper 500 came already named 'Booby Trap'. I feel a pr*t on Channel 16 (especially when admitting a grounding to the Coastguard) and we normally refer to the boat as BT.....

However, superstition prevents me renaming her! Incidentally a friend of mine has a 707 called Joe Blob.........

Crivens !

One can get around superstition by giving Neptune a fair sized drink donated during the renaming ceremony ( and not calling the boat something like 'Lady Sea Spray' ! )

There used to be a Bolero on the Clyde called 'Baloo' which was fine - then the new owner changed the name to 'Panty Thief'. Fortunately she has changed name once more since then.

I am grateful to a previous owner of my Achilles, who changed the name from "Chill Sea" (anag, geddit?) to the classier "Blue"

Does govern the choice of colour scheme though, on everything from hull, stackpack, coffee mugs...

But at marina offices etc we often get asked for the boat name followed by "...and hull colour?"

I guess the solution to an embarrassing name on the radio would be to use one's Ofcom-assigned callsign - much better reporting a flare sighting (say) as "Mike Sierra Foxtrot Alfa Five" than "Big Dangly Balls" or whatever else tickled the funnybone of some Solent racer.

There is (or was) a boat in Ramsgate called 'Der Dogs' sporting a cartoon on it's transom of a dog licking his gonads.

Yes...pointing at the gonads if I remember.... the cathedral hulled fishing boat spotted on the hard last new year by my 8 year old daughter... 'Daddy what does that mean?'

There is a skollob locally, backwards spelling apparently, very classy.

"Mayday, mayday, mayday. This is yacht I Say...Ding Dong, I Say...Ding Dong, I Say...Ding Dong":D

i wondered where Ding Dong had gone. The owners I think now own a boat called Booty complete with a picture of a chick slapping her bottom.

Not really cringeworthy, but I was a bit startled by a Sigma 33 in Kemps Quay with RETRIBUTION in large letters (Ts painted as daggers dripping blood) - a bit melodramatic, not to say optimistic?

My first 'proper' boat, which was at the time moored in Chichester Marina, was called 'Sing High'. Unfortunately this was displayed in large letters on the transom so I never got round to re-naming it.

Never did understand logic behind it.

The name of a local angling trip boat 'She likes it rough' does leave a rather sour taste in the mouth, don't you think?

On the other hand, there's a whole class of names that are not bad names in themselves, but do seem to be tempting fate - 'Rockhopper', 'Force Ten', etc.

It may well reflect the owner- its not for me to judge-there is a yacht on a swinging mooring at the top of Hardway on the Gosport side called "Red Hot Granny"!

Bought my cat named "Tomcat"-; called the digy Jerry Mouse.

"Smug Druggler" had a lot of hassel clearing in and out abroad!
