Some sailmakers make smart holdalls out of the old sail. If you can get a NORTH logo you will be in frontline fashion.

They're excellent for covering piles of firewood. Dust sheets whilst decorating. Just don't hoist them as sails.

I had the worn leech cut out of our old jib and now leave it on the boat in the winter for occasional use. The main was too far gone and sits in the garage sulking.

What about making up an emergency collision patch or whatever it's called?

I put an old genoa over the car as a dust sheet while away sailing for the summer. We have also used the material to make large bags for e.g. containing the dinghy in a locker.

I use an old Genoa as a ground-sheet on which to wash/scrub the current sails: and made storage-bags for kit in the loft from the oldest storm-jib.
