Wing Mirrors for boats ?

I, too, have always thought that wing mirrors would make a great accessory.

When cruising, I like to delegate the wheel to the capable hands of the autopilot. I can then concentrate upon more important tasks such as reading, listening to music, drinking coffee and eating cakes. I like nothing more than lying on a couple of cockpit cushions looking aft. Wing mirrors would save the tedious task of having to move, twist my body and look forward for traffic every 15 minutes or so.

That's what the secondary camera on your phone is for. Better still if you can get a crew member to hold it for you whilst dropping grapes into your mouth.

1. While driving a car it would be inadvisable to take your eyes off the road for long enough to scan 360 degrees around you, at sea it is called keeping a good lookout.
2. In a car the driver generally sits in the same place, so aligning the mirrors is reasonably straightforward. When I am helming my boat I sit, stand or sprawl in a large number of different places in the cockpit, depending on the point of sail, weather etc. so would need a whole suite of differently-angled mirrors to keep a lookout astern.
