So far I haven't needed to but......... If the need arose and conditions were suitable, is it permitted to sail through a windfarm?

Paul

UK yes, Belgium and Holland no. In the UK, the usual requirement is a 50m radius advisory caution zone established around each wind turbine and offshore sub-station platforms. For work a large exclusion zone will be enforced, for example a 500m exclusion zone is currently established around diving work for maintenance and similarly round turbine D20 of the London Array cos it is damaged (and has been for most of the last 12 months!). But as I said Belgium and Holland is forbidden.

I've sailed through The Galloper wind farm. The wind speed is somewhat reduced and the tide swirls round the pylons.

Thanks gentlemen....... In the bar the other evening nobody knew the answer to my question but there's always someone out there who knows and once again the ECF has come up trumps! (oops sorry, that word!)

Michael's point is worth thinking about. The London Array has reported 2m+ scouring round some pylons; how far away has the scour material deposited?

Apparently that scouring effect was severely underestimated in the design of windfarms. In a number of windfarms it has been necessary to dump rocks around the bases of the windmills to counter that effect.
