I just read a daft little publication today put out the anti ban lobby which contains a list of strategies so that they can keep water skiing
One recommendation is that you use an autopilot as that way there is no driver to get prosecuted.
I've not really got too involved in the whole stupid affair - other than to write to my MP pointing out that a bit of zoning and lake management might be better for local business rather than imposing a ban - but if the comment above reflects the way that the water ski fraternity have conducted their protest then it seems little wonder that the ban is with us.

Supect that 99% of visiters to the area will not think the ban is pathetic, but rather a welcome relief from the 1% causing annoyance.Plenty of other bits of water to go to where they can make as much wash, noise etc as they want elsewhere.
A glance at the boat registration numbers listed as wanting to use the lake has shown an overall loss of virtually nil.So much for the economic argument as well. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Much as I am annoyed at a prejudicial ban on these people, they will do themselves no favours with this approach.

Acting dangerously only serves to reinforce the reasons for the legislation in the first place.

Given that the LDNPA is an unelected quango, they would be better off getting the legislation overturned in the European courts on the grounds that the quango are not legally empowered to raise it in the first place.

All IMHO of course!

I was on my boat adjusting my rigging on Tuesday morning. 10am. Beautiful sunny and warm. Not a breath of wind.
But the noise of the geese and ducks was overpowering.
I'll have to see if we can get them banned.

I disagree. Been a regular visitor to Windemere for last 20 years and I can honestly say I've never suffered any annoyance from noise. There was a much more reasonable solution to this perceived problem.

I have mixed feelings on this ban - but was rather amused to see that the latest and much publicised, addition to the yachting fleet on Windermere was a yacht of OVER 50 FEET !!
The lake is only just over 11 miles long and not all of it navigable.
I bet it has all the electronic gizmos plus AIS Radar ?

I propose a ban on any boats over 22feet in length.

I agree about limiting the length. Lots of people use their yachts as accommodation so I think 22ft would be a touch small.
Lots of Oceanis 31ft about. I would have plumped for about 26-28ft as maximum.
Sonatas are strong here at about 26ft.

1 - It is spin. no one is really going to ski on autopilot...
2 - "Boat reg not down" thats bollox I can assure you that boat numbers are very very down regardless of what the authoritys are saying.....
3 - If people suffered annoyance why have the Lakes been so bloody busy all these years and why is it not more busy now due to this alledged peace and quiet.....
4 - Have you seen the wash caused by some boats at 6mph......
5 - The area WILL suffer as a result of fewer boaters with big wallets, in fact it is suffering now in my opinion.....
6 - For the record many people are not sticking to 10mph all the time just as a very few of you stick to 70mph on the motorway.....

hmm, down south at chichester we have an 8 knt (er,,,,I think!) limit in the harbour. bear in mind, its a big harbour with 20 miles or so of coastline. Not as big as a lake of course, but still big for a harbour. But id say the harbour masters manage to keep that to an effective law. Maybe 3-4 court cases a year, and that includes bizarre case of physical abuse against the harbour authority trying to stop waterskiing in the harbour mouth in fog. Wash is more contentious Id say. A boat with a deep V doing 8 knts is hardly moving, but the new correctness is it should do less as its wash is too great. But hey, we can all get along.

Yes, late in the evening when no one is about and away from moored boats, there may be the odd breach of the speed limit, but I think i ll disagree with you. the limit WILL become effective

It strange that one part of the ban means that all the other lakes are now also 10mph which means power boats can now also go i belive on coniston and similar waters, good luck to the WAF at least they are trying to get the unjust ban overturned although hopefully by legal and safe means,

"Sheperds marina closing down"
Were did you hear that, its news to me and I think you are mistaken.....

With regards to the trip boats, we have a saying at our marina which is effected by wash from passing boats and it goes like this. "What part of 6mph does he not understand" these trip boats are the biggest culprit for causing wash alledgedly eroding the lake side (yeah right, millions of gallons of water per day have been pouring into the lake drom the fells for milions of years and theres no erosion yet) We regularly see them doing more than 6mph around Bowness but never seem to get pulled by our Lake dibble.
