Winch barrel re-chroming

Anyone done this? Our original (33yrs) Lewmar 32s still function nicely but the chrome has worn off on the waists of the barrels. I know it can be fairly costly (although a lot cheaper than new). Trouble is I've just fitted a brand new anchor windlass and the difference is very noticeable.

I had two rechromed at a small place in south Wales. It cost me £40 for the two rather than the £80 each quoted by a marine place. They have not changed in any way since they were done two years ago.
