Why spend thousands on a boat and the tie it up with manky bits of string.

Photo one is a cracker, he could be setting a trend there. Think I'll get a cleat welded onto my Anchor shank.

I understand that some people believe in a greater power and that, that greater power will ensure that no harm will come to them. As a devout atheist I have great faith in 16mm octoplait.

Judging by how close the bow is to the pontoon and how the bowsprit overhangs it I suspect that there is no swell and no wind there. Probably be OK to use a pair of shoelaces to hold it fast :D

Trouble is many who do such as shown ... never learn. If anything goes wrong such as line failing - someone else basically sorts it before any or more damage to others.

I asked a guy in one marina why he used B&Q blue rope to moor his pride and joy .... answer was that he wasn't going to use his prime clean lines as home mooring lines to get chafed and dirty.

Amazing - and the best bit of rope seems to be attached to the anchor rather than a mooring cleat.
That bowsprit is probably not designed to take serious side loading so might get damaged (the kite pulls upwards and sideways, but probably not with the sideways force of the boat on a mooring rope)

And as a minister of religion, I also put my trust in decent lines! 16mm octoplait is a bit overkill for my 31' Moody, but the principle is good.
