Why I like boating on the SoF

Our berth isn’t near the restaurants, but I think having your bot there and living through the renovations wouldn’t have been much fun.

We like the changes. The roof terraces are a great addition and the new restaurants a welcome addition. With time they will achieve more individualism.

There is also a new wine bar/shop near the Indian restaurant.

Looks like a mistral might stop the weekend plans of St Tropez, but have a back up for the following weekend anyway.

My boat is on the quay in front of the restaurants and it was a real nightmare over the winter months ... lots of dust, dirt, noise, etc. ... so much so that I extended the annual maintenance stay in Monaco Marine to avoid the worst of it.

I also like the recent changes and hope they press ahead with modernisation of the port infrastructure and the plans for more larger boats.

We’ve decided not to go to Corsica and meet up with some friends in st tropez !

weather forecast is changing daily but Saturday and Sunday night seem to be the worst weather wise.
Same here ... I was planning to head to Corsica at the weekend and stay for most of next week, but the weather looks challenging from Monday onwards. The weekend could still be OK for a trip to St Tropez as the latest forecast is for winds of 15 knots and moderate wave heights. It wouldn't take much of an improvement/delay in the arrival of the Mistral for it to be OK.

I was thinking of you when I made the point. The politics of changing the layout will be interesting. Roger Roux (Beaulieu mayor) was out on his small boat over the weekend and anchored close to us. We were surprised how many people went over in their boats for a chat.

I had dinner there recently - I thought the work done was an excellent improvement.

On a similar topic, the knock down and complete rebuild of a big chunk of Antibes town centre just north of the post office is now finished, and looks amazingly good in my view. Really big improvement to the town imho.
They have done an excellent job, in keeping with the traditional architecture as best they can with new buildings. And what I really like is that they have refrained from loading the new retail space with designer boutiques and kept it independent in true Antibes style. Post office looks quite out of place now!!

Where is that please Hooligan? Looks very nice. I'm heading for SofF this weekend.
Hi. This is in the Gulf of Kalamata so def not near SoF. Apologies if misleading and thread drift to the title. I found a way to easily post pictures from my iPhone so got overly excited. I would say that down here you can be in beautiful bays with just a boat or two and Caribbean water. The downside is that the local 🌹 is not as good as Provence and if you buy the latter you def feel lighter in pocket afterwards!!

Ah, thanks, makes sense.

Which Squadron is that? 58/60 or 65? Either way, very nice (y)

Thanks.
It’s the 65. We had a 58 before which I think was an unbelievably seaworthy vessel but with 4 kids was a little small in the end. I think the 65 is the perfect size at least for us and easy to manage on my own ie no crew.

Very nice. I knew you had the 58 and didn't spot that you swapped if for a 65 (I wasn't on the forum much when you swapped). Yes good size to single hand yet not be cramped at all. I know several folks who have had or still have them, including one guy who bought two, and all like them very much.

If it’s an Itama 56, I saw it on Friday and Saturday in more or less the same place … rolling just as much as everyone else without stabilisers 🤣
It would be surprising if she wasn't actually rolling MORE than everyone else.
Deep vee hull do have their pros, but pretty sure resistance to roll anywhere under solid planing speed (as well as roll smoothness, for lack of a better word) just ain't one of them.

The issue with Itama is that its mass has little radius measured from its roll centre (ie it is a low profile boat). This makes its roll period short (ie very fast rolling), compared with most other boats, which is uncomfortable. To be fair, M. Amati didn't make it to be good at anchor of course :)
