NOT TAKE IN INNER CLYDE ?

Not a criticism but surely as Scotland's most densely populated (by boats) he would have done well to include it in his stop over

Ditto Cardiff Bay & Bristol

If it was about raising money for the RNLI then that surely would have made more sense than skirting all the way around Wales missing the most populous and wealthiest parts. But this trip is more about his ego i am guessing from the posts on here recently.

From here:

Mission Statement

To raise funds for the RNLI whilst demonstrating & promoting "Best Practice" in sea safety

Not sure how Arny is qualified to assert he is the arbiter of "best practice" in sea safety.

Re: Ditto Cardiff Bay & Bristol

How else is Arny supposed to get from the south west to Scotland, other than by 'skirting around Wales'. If it was just about visiting the wealthiest & most populous boating areas he could, I suppose, have trundled up & down the English side of the channel. Would that have got his cause as much publicity, I wonder.

Re: Ditto Cardiff Bay & Bristol

It would seem that his prime objective is to fulfill his ambition to circumnavigate the UK in a small boat and secondary raise funds for the RNLI. Ellen Macarthur sailed around single handed at 18. Maybe Arny hopes it will lead to better things. His posts do seem a tad arrogant.

Hmmm well you certainly highlight whether it is worth while as a fund raising excercise.

Sounds more like he is using it as a reason d'etre to fund his ambition whilst legitimising the use of the funds and sponsorship. He has made not many friends by ramming stuff like 'Suzuki are the best outboards ever' kind of shot his credibility really. He has since fallen on his forum sword so that kind of tells you something doesn't it?

I am shocked at remarks on this thread.

Arny is going round the UK in his little boat.
He is raising money for the RNLI as one of his objectives - hopefully a lot of money.

Which of us is doing the same or more?

He's entitled to his opinions. He has his spats on here like everyone else. Does that give general license to "diss" his efforts? If he does raise the £30K he hopes will you all (and the RNLI) be saying to him "ta, but it's worthless because we think you're a prat and you didn't do it the way we would" ??

FFS try to disengage Arny having a spat with Haydyn from Arny raising some dosh for a charity. We all have spats, we all say things we should have thought through more, and there is always some other poster getting on out tits. Arny has got up my nose in the past now that I think about it - so what? I hope he enjoys his journey, I wish I had the time for such an adventure, and I hope he raises a load of dosh for RNLI along the way. When he comes to IoM I shall meet him if I'm here at the time, and I have no idea whether I'll walk away from that encounter thinking he's a pillock or a great guy, and I'm sure vice versa!

I'm not at all shocked by what's been written on this thread cos Arny does seem to have a talent to get up peoples noses.

But I do agree that it's up to him how he does the trip and good luck to him, I certainly wouldn't want to do it in a smallish boat. If he succeeds it will be a real feather in his cap and any money he raises will be a welcome bonus for the RNLI.

Re: Ditto Cardiff Bay & Bristol

Arny's experience has encouraged me to plan a solo circumcision of Majorca myself this year in my boat and I was hoping that other forumites might sponsor my fuel and buy me nice gifts from the swindlery. Also I will be needing forumites to be present in every port to bring me food and other victuals. It's all in a good cause and afterwards I will tell other forumites how to do their boating. Do you think this is a good idea?

It was not my intention to question any morals here I was merely implying it might have been worth his while stopping on the Clyde. But now you come to mention it does anyone want to pay for my petrol - err I mean sponsor me for a season.

Re: Ditto Cardiff Bay & Bristol

By god there are some prats on this forum. Yes every one is entitled to there opinion. but my guess here is that the detractors have neither the bottle or the skill to undertake such a thing that Arny is doing. Wether it is an ego trip or not remains in the mists. I personally take my hat off to him and wish him good luck, I shall not be far behind him. I would suggest to you detractors either put up or shut up!! Give Arny the benifeit of the doubt and give him the support he deserves.

I am really astounded at the vitriol that has been aimed at Arny. I met him at Ribex the other week and found him to be a very sincere and genuine guy. He has had the balls to get out and do something. He has taken the prow by the stern and gone out and done it!

Arny, go for it mate - come back and we will put you through an instructor course - we want those who have done it! You will have gained knowledge that most won't even understand - that will be invaluable. Combined with the your experience as a flying instructor - ye, we'll have you. But then we only take the best!

I dont get all the bad feeling towards Arny, would be a hell of an acheivment for any of us if only we had the time, inclination or bottle to do it. I wish you the best of luck in both your voyage and your fund raising.
Regards - Ian
