How yachting has changed

Thomas Foulkes was then the place for yachting fittings. I was only a kid then but I remember the numerous visits we made as a family. Plenty of ex MOD bits that could be recycled to yachts. My father bought a couple of ex army radio aerials that he made into fishing rods.

Then the London Boat Show at Earls Court had yachts galore from numerous different builders, but the chandlery stands upstairs were very interesting with bits and pieces not for sale elsewhere.

Are there any chandlers left in Burnham on Crouch? From memory there were four there at one time.

Strange I don't recognise that heavily eroded bank behind the boats and I sail the northern broads and rivers all year round.. so that river bank certainly has changed..

Definitely Horsey Mill behind.

I only went once to Thomas Foulkes, but used to peruse their multi page adverts fervently. I really, really wanted their "Landsdown Binnacle" but just couldn't afford the £180 price tag. But at least I went to see it once.

Without looking it up, was that the one in the Widdle in the Sands? The answer would have to be no, but I have traversed the waters described, and even caught the same train from Nordern, where the timetable had hardly changed.
