I have just logged in to the MBM forum to find 3 new threads and no less than 49 new posts since my previous visit around 4 hours ago. Are we not getting into a real danger of overdose here chaps and chapesses?

I must say that I love you all (well, nearly all) dearly but the thought of what the backlog might be if I take a week off is a little daunting.

There's also a real possibility of serious stuff getting lost in the noise. I'm not saying we should BE serious but some folks do come here seeking answers to serious questions.

DFL syndrome, again, isn't it... Shame you can't mark threads to ignore.

Re: nah

Part experts sa ythe very best parties are the ones where everyone says what a fab party, but gosh there were loads of people weren't there? Same (to an extent) with this - but with conditions.
1. avoid long nasty needly personal stuff

2. New thread rather than 50+ things

IMHO this BB just about getting to enough people so not dead when everyone on hol.

One possible option...Motor Boat Chat is the only forum to be shared by two mags. We could easily launch a second power-based forum. Ownership to be decided by putting editors Alan and Jake in a mud wrestling bath.

Okay, not serious about last sentence (Pauline) but would like views on whether you would like a lighter side and a serious side pair of motorboat forums - or perhaps topical and practical if they are more sensible ways of splitting them (and incidentally, chat not forgotten).

Re: nah

carefully-positoned spies monitored your every move and reported back, and giving new meaning to leaky boat. Axshully think you *were* missed, so there's lots here obv fancy..erm would perhaps consider themselves to be distant admirers.

Re: opposed

eh? this won't work will it? It's taken ages to get any life into this. At last, even poster-baiters gleefully find sport with the thrashing contributors in the frothing melée that this BB has become. (Nice use of idiomatic form eh? ahem.)

Anyway a split of the loony er lighthearted stuff and the serious stuff is what you have already - scuttlebut for (some) so miserable as to pop at everyone who doens't do "serious" cruisng or "serious" passagework, and here, for stinkpotters and others who have larf (sometimes but not always) and are fine about saily.

Can you imagine a post on scuttlebuttas follows: We went on a powerboat with friends yesterday, and did 30 knots! It was amazing - quite relevation even just to see an Autohelm log show "30.1" when oursd never shows doouble figures! has anyone else been powerboating for the first time. It certainly taught me a thing or too about how sailboats are seen by powerboats - everything seems almost stationary. has anyone else done this? " ....and so on. It'll never happen. Very few who post there (incl me) ever cough to enjoying (or even considering) going out for a spin on a power boat, dear me no, instant death.

Who wants a blimmin dead serious BB? Not even the scuttlybutters it seems. Oi! no jokes thank you very much indeed. Can't you read the notice? What does it say? eh? Eh? It says SERIOUS. Oh, you are being serious about x-channel in a coracle with outboard+staysail, scuse me...

Re: Just when it was getting interesting

no chance! AH wd wisely stand aside for Tom Isitt, his quite large and motorbikey deputy who is so tough that he even E-chinned that Marian who immediately went off to start Boring Yacht Mag.

Re: nopw that is a good idea

A Boaters Lounge sounds wonderful. Much better than a Yacht Club. Yacht = seriousy racing worky snooty praps, and Club =membership only, so not v welcoming. Whereas Boaters = dinghy thru oceanliner, Lounge = slump around drinking/drinking lots.

Re: ooh

tell us about the aston, then. It's obviously a real one and not a wind-up: the giveaway is that real ones are invariably due to go to the garage for a service, or already in the garage for a service...

Luddite voting for status quo

No Kim don't split it. It works fine. You cant have a BB that is pure banter, you need the real business of boating. The "character" of BB is the sum total of contributors, and in this case it means serious boat stuff punctuated by banter, but even the banter is boat banter. That's fine. The volume isn't a prob - there are much bigger volumes on some other (non-boat) BBs and they work fine. If you go away for a week you miss some stuff, but so what, it is only a BB! I certainly dont read everything anyway, not enuf time. Things that would help, though they're not a big deal, are IMHO

1. Titles should be clearer, not "I have a question" or "a trickey problem" type stuff. But that's one for the contributors, not moderators
2. Anyone who gets insulting in tone (and I dont mean the light hearted banter type stuff, I mean say jmr in the "GoodCrack" thread) should be yellow carded then dumped.

Re: ooh

Matts, you've given the game away now. You clearly are a fraud, and know nothing about cars, otherwise you'd have known that Aston Martin never made wind-up cars. Even the Dinky/007 one was a push along.

It\'s a very sexy Aston Martin Vantage

Black, with cream soft, soft leather interior and it's being delivered immediately after my lottery win, before Mr B spends it all on a Riva Opera or a Ferretti 80 or the like.

Re: Luddite voting for status quo

Agreed, leave it as is. Of course most threads get hi-jacked eventually but if you want an answer it's down to you to get the subject line right.

On that note: Can people who reply remeber to take off the NM if there is a message. Tut Tut.
