Sorry for the delay. As promised here’s a pic of the boat I plumped for. It’s a 2007 Sumatra 620 with a 15hp Suzuki outboard. Basically a day boat, but with a cuddy cabin and a loo should I wish to stop onboard.
I looked at lots of boats and quickly realised that the things I thought I wanted, I really didn’t. Then it was trying to find a ‘modern’ day boat with a decent sized cockpit that had an outboard. This proved far harder than I expected as most cruisers available of this type have a huge engine and stern drive. I took the advice of a member on here and cast my net further afield to include Norfolk and hey presto this one was found.
The thing that struck me with this was that although only 6.2 mtrs long, it was wider than many with a beam of 2.5 mtrs. With this it felt far more stable than others I’d looked at, and the cockpit far more spacious.
I was almost seduced by some other rather lovely, more expensive cruisers, but as this is my first boat I wanted to feel comfortable helming it on my own, getting to learn the ropes on the water before hopefully one day moving on to other larger boats in the future.
I’ve been out a few times already and I’m really enjoying it. I’m sure there’ll be a million and one questions I’ll want to ask as I go along, so apologies in advance for bombarding the forum.
Many thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply to my original post, it has been greatly appreciated.
