I am planning to treat my Hunter 27 to a VC TAR2 treatment as osmosis prevention taking advantage of the fact that she will have been out of the water for 18 months and so unlikely to again be in such a dry condition. To be honest, I am going for this product because I have aquired a small stock at a good price.
If I use VC TAR, will I be restricted to that brand of antifoul from then on? The info on the tin and literature is somewhat ambiguous on this point referring variously to it being a good primer for.."antifouling" then alternatively "..VC antfouling"
Has anyone experience of this product? What did you use? Are the VC products worth their high cost?

thanks

I covered my hulls in the original VC Tar. The product worked very well with Micron (following the instructions). I have had to patch a couple of places because on one area, the webbing boat slings wore a hole, and in another I got a small osmosis buble. I peeled the tar back with a sandvik scraper so that I ended up with a nicely faired piece of gel coat, and used VC Tar2 to cover up afterwards. again no problems with adhesion between original VC tar and new or with the Micron A/F. If you have a large area to strip later (I am fitting new bows and a thruster this winter) then http://www.bcaviation.co.uk/paint_stripper/paint_stripper.htm is supposed to be able to strip it without fuss or trouble. I will be trying it this winter and will report on the forum afterwards - however my boat is not coming out until january.

Most a/fs are ok, but remember to get the first coat on before the VC Tar has cured. Makes the difference between good adhesion or peeling antifoul.

I think is says on International web site what the overcoat times are. If it does't just foolow overcaot time on back of can. Absolutely concur about point about getting af on at right time. Good idea is to apply 1st coat of non-polishing af the your standard polishing. This way you never polish through back to the primer, if you did you'd have to sand, reprime etc.

ps VC Tar is ace! Good buy! Goes on nice and smooth, cures at normal painting conditions ie almost cold! Nice long overcoat window.
