I am looking at the Plastimo catalogue which quotes the test done by "Voile et Voiliers" in summer 2009 (free translation) :

Yes I know what they said but find it surprising. In most tests Delta has done pretty well. How different people have done tests and whether they are fair has already been done to death on here of course!

The delta is a good anchor, but does tend to slowly drag in soft substrates or in bad conditions. The Manson supreme is worth the price difference if you want to anchor overnight.

Looking back at the Voiles et Voiliers test (also in YM of course), not only was there a huge difference in performance between the apparently very similar Kobra and Delta, but they found the Kobra performed better than the Manson and several other new gen ones and was only beaten by the Spade.
Is this really plausible?
I don't recall any other tests coming up with this. There have been lots of recommendations on here by serious experienced cruisers for the Manson but I don't recall any of them suggesting the Kobra, although some have been quite enthusiastic about the Delta (without claiming it equals a Manson etc.)
If these results are reliable then the Kobra is a fantastic bargain and should be wiping all the others out!

A quick google of Kobra Anchor suggest that it is branded or licensed by Plastimo. If so, anything said by Plastimo should be assessed for bias.

Yes agree, and there were a couple of other tests where the Kobra2 performed very well, infact there have been no tests that I could find, at the time of purchase, where it did not perform well. But as I said above you pays your money and take your choice, but what do I know, I bought a Bavaria

Was that ever in doubt? Just as the Delta is branded or licensed by Lewmar :)

I didnt know it was a Plastimo brand. Somebody posted that Plastimo state that the Kobra is best value, based on the French test. Just didn't want anyone basing a purchase decision soley on what the sales bumph says.

Yes Plastimo is responsible for the Kobra 2 but the original test comments came from the magazines including a German one: "Yacht" as well as "Yachting Monthly" and "Voile et Voiliers".

PS I don't have one but it would probably be my next anchor.

Here is an extract of their test, this time dealing with the Britany anchor : http://www.voilesetvoiliers.com/equipements/video-ancre-britany/

They indicate that under traction, the anchor always turns on its side and only one fluke works. This led to the bending of the fluke and the anchor being discarded afterwards as non-functionning. Oops, I have two Britany anchors....

There is no doubt in my mind that you shoudl buy one of the modern anchors. The reason is really simple the modern anchors set and more importantly re-set quickly if the tide changes. They are a huge improvement on earlier designs but you may have to spend money making them fit your bow roller.

It is wirth spending that money because once you have confidence in your anchor you will sleep more easily at anchor and what price do you put on a good nights sleep?

I have just one; it's the only anchor of decent size that will fit into the anchor locker on my boat. Seems to work for me. (Kedge, in the cockpit locker, is Delta).

From what I read of that test (in YM) I would be very reluctant to draw any conclusions from it. Reader's experience with various anchor types would be a much better guide.

OP could possibly borrow anchors of types which interest him and see how well they work for him. Or buy one of each, then he will have a main anchor and a kedge.
