What complete and utter twaddle. OP for god sake don't by a Rocna - they are underspeced - designed to have a much stronger shank. As I said before - in the UK either delta of Manson, in the Med - Manson - delta not good in soft mud and will plough through mud in extremis.

I bought a Rocna, works nicely and sets easily. Did I do a Silly Thing?

True the label is falling off, does that mean I have a dodgy one ? ;)

Assuming you're not trying to start a big anchor thread, the Manson came out better in the YM tests than the Delta but either will work fine if they are the size specified for your boat.

LustyD, I've got you marked high on my list as posting complete bollox without foundation in fact, and when exposed you NEVER apologise.

I suggest other people disregard completely any of your posts.

Ok, I borrowed someone else's rant but it seemed to set the right tone for an anchor thread. :)

As any fule knows the best anchor is not the Manson, but the... ahhh, it's slipped my mind.

I had a Delta. It didn't drag. I didn't have a Manson. So what does that prove? Nothing! Which just goes to show the value of a forum...

We will be replacing the existing 66lb Claw on our new boat with a Delta, albeit probably an 80lb one ('cos it fits and is cheaper than a smaller Manson) because after ten years with a Delta on our last boat it never dragged once. But then we had 14 years of a genuine CQR on the boat before that and never dragged that either. I must be doing something wrong.:eek:

Hi All
I have a beneteau 473 and I am looking for a new anchor with good holding.
I have considered the Delta 30kg and the Mason suprem 27kg
Does anyone have any preference or can recommend either both are similar in price new or if anyone has a second hand one for sale.

I apprieciate all the comments
Thank you Nick

See, I knew you'd regret it.

Excellent. In one paragraph you have proved to hundreds of people that

1. You know nothing about manners and Internet etiquette.
2. You know nothing about anchors.
3. You know nothing about commerce.
4. You know nothing about proof reading.

I await your response with much anticipation.

P.S. you started this.;)

I'm sitting on a narrowboat in Stretford, so don't need an anchor any more, therefor I hope I have no agenda, and no bias.

During my 3 years traveling to Malta and back, I had a CQR copy which I came to hate, although I managed to make it work by being very choosy about where I anchored.

It was a Harbourfast anchor, which I believe were standard on Moody Yachts during the '90's, so presumably not a bad anchor in it's day.

If I had been able to find one for sale, I would have bought any one of the various new generation anchors - Rocna, Manson Supreme, Spade are those that I was aware of.

Spade were/are very expensive, so I would probably have preferred a Rocna or a Manson, but wouldn't have cared a jot which. Either would have been light years ahead of what I had.

To the OP - take no notice of those who deride discussions about anchors. They are one of the most important pieces of kit you have, (assuming you are going to spend some significant time at anchor). They can also save a fortune in Marina fees. Well worthy of extensive discussion and research.

There's nothing fair in anchor wars :p:D

====================================================

"The first rule of Anchor Club is....you don't talk about Anchor Club
The second rule of Anchor Club is.....;)"

====================================================

Lakesailor - Don't I know it?! :p Just trying to referee this one to an extent, more through habitual stubbornheadedness - the OP asked a question about people's experiences of TWO SPECIFIC ANCHORS, so that he could make an informed decision...

He did not ask everyone to start clamouring to tell him why he should consider something else entirely and then start bickering amongst themselves.... :(
