In 1996, two French brothers, twins Emmanuel & Maximilian Berque, who were unemployed at the time, built a 13 foot decked sailing dinghy (Micromegas 2) in their attic and then, without any electronics or safety equipment, sailed it more than 6000 miles across the Atlantic to Florida via the Carribean.

In 2001, they built a 22 foot Polynesian prao (Micromegas) and again crossed the Atlantic without any charts, compass, watch or instruments of any kind. Using traditional Polynesian navigation techniques, they arrived within 6 miles of their intended landfall after a crossing of nearly 4000 miles. And this despite 15 days where the sky was completely covered !

After the first crossing in 1996 and after the short-lived media hype they had just enough money to return home, abandoning their boat in Fort Lauderdale. They are now anxious to try to recover it and so if anybody knows anything about its whereabouts they would be very grateful.
