Looking to get 60m 10mm G40 ISO delivered to Faro. SVB24 quoting €865.20 (14.12 per m) plus €143 delivery, total €1.009

Going to ask Sopromar this morning but they're usually crazy expensive.

Anyone know of any other options?

thanks

I'd look in some fishing port, I have seen two shipchandlers a bit more north (Figueira/Povoa area) with all the material to build and equip a small commercial fishing vessel: plates, tubing, chains, welding machines, hooks&slings, poliprop ropes, big nets, lobster pots, etc etc. South Portugal seems mostly leisure boating so may be more difficult, maybe hop to Huelva area?

We bought ours many years ago from Ayamar in Ayamonte.
Ah thanks!!! Forgot about them, looks like they do Lofrans for €609, just emailed them. Can feel a trip up the river coming up! Or wonder if they still do the van trip along the coast once a week..

See you soon, heading to the yard in a few weeks 😎

Last time I spoke to Lorie, they were still doing deliveries. Other option, we're heading to Lisbon on Thursday and should be back in Faro around month end so can drive you there to collect, depending on when you arrive. G.

P.S. Can they do VAT free for boat in transit if you berth in Ayamonte for the night?

Doh!!! Gypsy is stamped for BBB 3/8 acco chain. Different model than ISO says Lofrans website
Assuming it won't fit either ISO or DIN chain as data sheets on the web found so far say though haven't measured for sure yet. Hand in pocket again.... 🙄🙂

I think I still have a spare Lofrans Kobra 10mm ISO gypsy on board which I may be willing to part with. Had to change it as stock chain from Ayamar was DIN.

Its a slim chance but emails are cheap. Contact Peerless in the US, they make (and stock) BBB as standard. They were stocking, metric chain, in Europe and might have added Imperial to the stock. They are no longer typically 'American' and are owned by the Japanese company KITO.

A gypsy swap, to anything metric, is the most sensible - if it works. Just because its the same manufacturer of windlass does not mean the gypsies are interchangeable - but another email would confirm.

You dilemma might be difficult - I'd explore regalvanising - unless you've left it too late. Again, its a cheap action, another post here and a few emails. But much chain, eg Lofrans, (I believe) now comes from China.

Highland Galvanisers (Scotland) would process, or did until recently. I believe there is a directory of operating European galvanisers, one in France processes chain, Chainerie....??? (Jimmy Green stock(ed) their products - shackles)

Good luck

Also, I discovered as a pleasant surprise that rusted chain has some market value: one of my old ones about 60-70m 10mm was very rusty still they gave me 100-150 euro, I was told people use it to increase weight of concrete blocks used for permanent moorings.
