Where have I been yesterday...

P, you mean these two pics? Top one doesn't look like (what I know at least as!) a duetto
Sorry V, must admit that it was a bit of a stretch from my part to say that the Duetto was in two pics... :D
One is indeed the first of the two pics you linked - it's the black car in the top right corner, visible in the mirror.
The other pic where you can (barely, and also in the mirror) see the same car again is the one with the "Disco Volante" in foreground.

Anyway, if by "what I know at least as" you meant that you have in mind the first generation of the Duetto - i.e. the one that Dustin Hoffman drove in The Graduate, nope, that's not the black one in the above pics.
That's in fact one of the latest (4th) generation, whilst the first gen is the one that was also known as "osso di seppia" (cuttlebone), due to its rounded and thin tail shape.
Maybe that's the one you meant as Duetto?
Otoh, afaik that nickname ("Spider" being the official name) applied to all versions, through almost 30 years of production!

Regardless, sorry to hear that your time is absorbed also by mechanical problems of the X3, as if the boat wouldn't be demanding enough...
...though at least the boat is worth it, as opposed to the German junk! :D

yep that's the one that's called duetto down here.

:D

Talking about DE junk, I've gone through an old merc (30yrs ago) an audi coupe (20yrs ago) and this awful X3 (for the last decade).
I've been driving for 35yrs, changed a number of cars these three are the only german cars I ever owned and were by far the worst in terms of mechanical and electrical problems.
Italian cars were the best (as was the lovely R5-GTTurbo mk1).
Since I generally dislike Japanese, looks like I"m not going to be getting another german pos anytime soon...
Main problem is that I paid 44k for the X3 and I can now only sell it for 6-7k so I'm reluctant to give it away atm (useful boot to shift things back and forth to the boat :D ) Latest stupidity was filling up the passenger footwell with rainwater on a drizzle yesterday just because it was parked on a slight downhill, if parked flat, everything's fine. And I did clean the bleeding gutters and drainpipes coming down from the sunroof a month ago...

Is it just me or does the 1952 Disco Volante have a resemblance to the E type Jaguar which came after it? Is there any styling connection between the 2 cars?

Well, what else could have made the E-type one of the most memorable cars ever, other than having been inspired by an A-R...?
And the coupé version of the Disco resembles even more the E-type, imho.
I didn't take a specific pic of that, but you can see it in the pic with the red Giulietta Spider, with its rear lines reflected by the mirror.
More about the Discos here, together with some nice pics.

The 156 has to be one of the prettiest saloon cars built.

I owned two of them. The 159 wasn't the same.

The resemblance is very striking. Its almost as if Jaguar stole the design!
