Where has my AIS gone?

At the start of this trip my C70 chart plotter by the chart table came up with an error message saying No AIS information - and sure enough I don't haven't have any AIS. The wind direction yellow line and the green line showing my projected course have disappeared from the cockpit C120.

Also and possibly related the C120 threw a wobbler and rebooted loosing all of the Navionics data. I have swapped data cards over and the data has definitely disappeared from one of the cards.

Any ideas where a complete technofobe, who doesn't understand how the instruments talk to each other, should start looking. Does it sound likely to be connections or fault with one of the plotters.

Not sure if these problems are related or not. Are the two plotters running fully interconnected (eg sharing chart and radar data) or relatively standalone (eg only sharing position, wind data etc)?
The wind direction and heading etc being missing sounds like it could be a simple “presentation” option on the chart plotter. These are often referred to by Raymarine as vectors, and have an option to switch these on and off.
Similarly the AIS data is often a presentation “layer” which could have switched itself off.
These would be the simple/cheap fixes - it is possible that the wind instruments and AIS device have failed, but that would impact both plotters.
Download an electronic copy of the software manual as a PDF and search this using a text search to learn how to check each of these settings. This downloaded manual is almost essential to have and to refer to - using text search as well as the index page.

Thank you dunedin, I have managed to get back everything except the AIS. All the layers must have defaulted to OFF.

I have switched the AIS layer back on but none of the boats near me are showing up.

Very odd. I now have AIS on the C70 (but no navionics data) but cannot replicate on the C120 despite me copying the settings.
