What's the RYA's response to British boats being BANNED from Belgium?

Maybe, but from a personal perspective the impact is rather different as I have little choice but to fill up with red fuel when in the UK but I can by my booze and fags from a variety of outlets when in Belgium.

I did once use the the duty free stores on my first visit, unfortunately they didn't have what I wanted and chose something more expensive instead on my behalf. IIRC the supermarket by Mercator Marina would have been cheaper.

I have used the General Stores once or twice too ;)

Thank you James
why o why cant the RYA keep its membership informed then.
saying nothing at all does not help.
the red issue is a real threat to us east coasters, even transiting Belgian waters might be an issue.

The red diesel issue has been aired ad nauseam in the RYA Magazine and all other publications issued by it and in numerous press releases.

Sorry, but its not the RYA that's failing to communicating its the rest not bothering to listen or read:mad:

I must admit to binning the magazine after a quick flick through as it is - to be blunt - fairly boring.

I haven't spotted what would actually be construed as advice to visiting yachtsman if asked to pay a fine despite having the correct 60-40 receipts.

I also am starting to question the worth of being an RYA member.

I'm not sure that they can do much more than they currently are.

keep the membership better informed as Hebebty said

So, how do you suggest they do that? Personal letter to each individual member on each item that is in the news?

A regular magazine plus constant updates on the website and a phone number for queries seems to cover all bases.

If people are too idle to use what is available that is their problem.

Sometimes - like advice as to what to do if Belgian plod wants to fine you - is impossible to give if there is not an established precedent. You just have to accept that there is no clear answer. Thats life at times.

I have Mr Curruthers email printed off & carefully placed it in my fuel ticket folder. watch this space :)
I think the original Belgian Embassy reply in the other thread, included words to the effect that the letter from EU Commission to RYA was incorrect in law, according to the Belgians.
