What's the RYA's response to British boats being BANNED from Belgium?

But it shouldn't really be a problem. I have paid the tax, my paperwork shows I have paid the tax. The diesel happens to be red but there is no case to answer.

You're expecting pragmaism out of EU officials! The Directive only talks about permissible uses of marked fuel, not taxation levels. In a sane world, they would turn a blind eye, but since when was the EU sane?

Another reminder needed: Olympics.

All you have to do is pick your weather and tidal slot, out of the Solent, break in behind Brownsea(Poole will be Mobo'd full)keep S of the Shambles, and let the Circus gyrate well to the North:D

Then Westward Ho!, to fight for your chips and pasty with the gulls in Brixham and further West!!:)
The trick will be not to rush back until the Circus has left town:D:D

We hope to see our Western Family and friends, do the Scillies, and hire/swop a car for the odd return trip home/crew change, then waft back:rolleyes:

The Belgian's aren't saying you haven't paid tax, they're saying you have used dyed diesel for a purpose which it shouldn't be used.

No no, you have it wrong - Westward Ho! is in north Devon near Bideford, not south !! ;)

They probably are but 9 pages in and still nobody can actually say what Belgian law is being broken. People have been fined for this so they must have a record of the actual law that they were charged under surely?

Presumably their equivalent of our Hydrocarbon Fuels Taxation Act - the same that you would get done under for having red diesel in your car.

There have been so many times over the last few years when I have been thinking of cancelling my RYA membership of 25 odd years. Do they ever do anything to help us?

You come up with a plausible mechanism for putting them in their place and you will have my full support. If we cannot do it quickly, I prefer to see HMRC outlaw red diesel completely so that we get our freedom back... Pragmatic says that the saving from the 60/40 split is simply not worth the consequences
Freedom back? You can go ahead and buy white now! Dont understand your post!

RYA is never going to be able to dictate policy. The best effect the RYA can achieve is to get the government actually talking about the subject.

Expecting a politician to:
1. Understand the impact of something maritime,
2. Listen to the experts,
3. Make a rational and logical decision,
4. Admit they screwed up and failed to take steps 1 - 3,
5. Care about anything except the expense account and getting elected next time.

Is 4 steps more than can be expected.

Nevertheless, the RYA did manage to get this to the politicians, and cannot be blamed for the screw-ups doing what comes naturally to them - screwing up!

+1, and their anally focussed 'advisers':(

I don't. It has c36 nautical miles of coastline and ranks 143 out of 154 in the list of countries with coasts. ;)

But it is probably the closest foreign landfall for us on the East Coast (Orwell area) 80 odd miles and Oostende is a good place to visit, train station right by the harbour, good bars, restaurants etc we dont have quite the choice that you have in the Solent with Cherbourg etc only 60 odd miles away. South Holland for us is in the 90's ( I dont have the exact figs to hand) at 5.5kns it makes a big difference.

Lord, send Me a fair wind...

Well, I've gone for C'bourg- 60nm or so, but the wind changed and it's welcome to St Vaast- a good bit more, or Alderney, or Ooops, the tides turned, 'Hello Guernsey" !:D
