Whats the furthest anyone has been in a motor boat?

longest open sea crossing:
- brindisi Italy to Dubrovnik Croatia, 120nm
- Naples to Olbia, 200 nm (I have a portable satphone)

Longest travel, mostly along the coast:
Rome to Tivat Montenegro: 620nm
Tivat to Naples via Aeolean islands 600nm
How did you find Brindisi?

How did you find Brindisi?

we arrived there very earley in the morning, moored on the town quay, (without appointment) and went to bed,
around 9am we had a appointment for fuel, and immediately after refueling , we left for the crossing twoards croatia, to be ahead of bad weather prediction,
so never really visited Brindisi
the approach to the citry, (approx 1 mile inland iirc) was memorable
that was in 2014, so the memory's become more vague :)

when we crossed the adriatic in the other direction, the boat was a few months, in Polignano,
in that period we visited Polignano and Monopoly,
was nice, very authentic, unspoiled, but fairly quite,
the inland looked a bit under developed .

@Devon Boy what type of motor cruiser did you take on that amazing journey?
And what happened to the boat after you arrived in Nigeria?

It was an ex- military target towing vessel. 24m LOA

Driven by two marine converted paxman Diesel engines

Interestingly enough it had a really early adoption of the “fly by wire” system that had a 7 second delay on moving the throttle and getting an engine response. Made for interesting handling in confined spaces!

I do not know about the longest but I reckon I was berthed to a boat that did the shortest. About 50 yds plus to the crane & back every season. A chap finished off a Sadler 26 & it was berthed next to my boat . Sails arrived & the manager at the time fitted them for the owner. Family turned up, Backed out of berth & had no idea what to do next. Ran straight into empty berth in the opposite pontoon. Clipped a couple of other boats on the way. Lost their nerve & came back into my berth, which was empty at the time as I was refuelling. Marina staff told them they could not leave it there as I was waiting to put my boat in it. After much arguement & difficulty, they moved it sideways 15 feet to their berth, where it stayed. Each season it was lifted & scrubbed, stored & put back. Never once saw the owner, Sails just hung down on the deck going rotten. Halyards frayed & fell off. About 8-10 years later owner passed away & boat was sold. Apparently the chap always paid his marina bill on time & paid for it to be antifouled prior to launch. But apart from that it never moved & the owner never visited it, that I am aware of

It’s so sad when stuff like this happens. A couple of weekends of own boat tuition might be enough to get them on the straight and narrow enjoying their purchase for many years to come but yet they have been put off by a single negative experience, are happy to pay good money for good sails, warps and a marina berth + annual maintenance and not use it. ?
