Next time I’ll go around the long way.
Check out this guy's ocean crossing videos: Wow!Jersey to Paris and back via the Seine in a 6.5m rib. Something like 700nm.
Ah yesIn all honesty we pretty much hugged the coast as it was a new to me boat and we had substantial fuel issues. We landed in Roses though and it (the weather) was beautiful, filled up with diesel and then the heavens opened. I’ve never seem such a change in weather in such a short period of time. I have the photos and videos somewhere. This was only in September 2021
Some people have the courage of a lion, I ve never lost sight of land yet.I've just remembered this - UK to Australia in an 18ft open Drascome Lugger! I think he wins! Incredible story.
wow how amazing is that, did you keep a diary of costs etc? a diary of your journey even?
Me neither (or not in the mobo anyway), I wouldn't worry about it. Use your boat(s) as YOU want to, and have fun. You'll know if / when you and your boat are ready for a cross-channel or whatever. Some people have the courage of a lion, I ve never lost sight of land yet.

very interesting thank youHere are the stats from the Chichester to Opporto and return trip. This was done over two seasons and Ocean Spirit spent the winter of 2016/17 ashore in Opporto. The difference in mileage between the out and in passages is largely accounted for by a 100 mile trip up the Douro River in 2016.

E and OE!
The overall distance could have been substantially reduced by a direct crossing of Biscay from, say. Brest to A Corunna but on the outward passage we travelled in company with Nigel Pickin (once of this parish). His Prestige 50 didn1t have the range for a direct crossing. Apart from that both our SWMBOs would have vetoed the open sea passage!
