Whats the furthest anyone has been in a motor boat?

Went up the Seine to Paris on a cruise in company some years back.
Also Netherlands, Channel Islands etc.

How was the Gulf de Leon, I got caught out in the middle with a f6/7 , f2 when we started out and a good forecast.
Next time I’ll go around the long way.

In all honesty we pretty much hugged the coast as it was a new to me boat and we had substantial fuel issues. We landed in Roses though and it (the weather) was beautiful, filled up with diesel and then the heavens opened. I’ve never seem such a change in weather in such a short period of time. I have the photos and videos somewhere. This was only in September 2021

Welcome to my part of the world, Empuriabrava next stop from Rosas.
I was looking up how to spell Golf de Lion and found:

wow how amazing is that, did you keep a diary of costs etc? a diary of your journey even?

Part of the Bergen trip was subject of an article in Motor Boats Monthly in 2000 or thereabouts. I entered their competition for articles on passages that year. Finished second to folks who went from UK to Helsinki in a RIB. We didn`t grudge them their win.!

I do have information on the costs and distances involved in the Porto trip and will look them out over the next few days. Don`t think we will be boating any time soon!

Here are the stats from the Chichester to Opporto and return trip. This was done over two seasons and Ocean Spirit spent the winter of 2016/17 ashore in Opporto. The difference in mileage between the out and in passages is largely accounted for by a 100 mile trip up the Douro River in 2016.

Chichester to Opporto 2016

Total Days on board 155
Distance 1568 Nm
Engine Hours 214
Fuel Used 5600 litres
Fuel Cost £4723
Avg Price per litre £0.83 (includes full tanks in Channel Islands)
Avg Consumption 3.63 lpm
Ports Visited 36
Marina Fees £4401
Avg cost per night £28.39
Avg Speed 7.33 kts

Opporto to Chichester 2017

Total Days on board 135
Distance 1390
Engine Hours 183
Fuel Used 5330 litres
Fuel Cost £5159.23
Avg Price per litre £0.96 (smaller fuel intake in CI)
Avg Consumption 5.36 lpm
Ports Visited 25
Marina Fees £5205
Avg Cost per night £38,56
Avg Speed 7.6 kts

E and OE!

The overall distance could have been substantially reduced by a direct crossing of Biscay from, say. Brest to A Corunna but on the outward passage we travelled in company with Nigel Pickin (once of this parish). His Prestige 50 didn1t have the range for a direct crossing. Apart from that both our SWMBOs would have vetoed the open sea passage!

I once helped a friend sail his 34 foot ketch from Falmouth to Gibraltar, it took two weeks of 24 hours per day sailing, with a couple of days off in marinas on the way. We went straight across the bay of Biscay (was flat as a pancake-had to motor most of the way)

The furthest I've been on a motor boat is from Majorca to Ibiza ,circumnavigate Ibiza and back to Majorca again, not very far compared to the Falmouth to gib trip.

Near the eighties went from Ipswich to oosterscheld?? And caught end of that fastnett race storm. Was on old Nicholson 32 with hank on sails and saw 20ft waves. Scary. Fun. Lively. Dunna want it again.

very interesting thank you

Two of our most venerable club members took a Princess 30DS from the Medway to the "MED" via the canals and later then decided to go in the other direction and went up to the Baltic.

longest open sea crossing:
- brindisi Italy to Dubrovnik Croatia, 120nm
- Naples to Olbia, 200 nm (I have a portable satphone)

Longest travel, mostly along the coast:
Rome to Tivat Montenegro: 620nm
Tivat to Naples via Aeolean islands 600nm
