What tablet to replace my defunct Hudl

not quite true - the jeppesen charts are cross transferable on both platforms

HI Dnickj, hopefully things have changed, there was no question of availability on both OS's, just that I was asked to pay again when I got the iPad, and was greatly miffed.
Hope you are correct, but maybe when I power up the Nexus and go to the playstore or whatever its called, my original purchase will await me there?

Tab E is at the lower end / not the most sexy model out there, but still does everything you need or want. You cannot go wrong with a Samsung.

After full consideration and bearing in mind that a replacement will be funded from my tesco refund voucher, I've decided to go for a Samsung tab E ( subject to a feel in store). It's been recommended on here, fits the budget (nearly) and I've been pleased with other Samsung products.

I use my Android tablet on the boat so wanted a waterproof one which narrows down the field a great deal.

I also wanted a screen a bit larger that the Hudl / 2 so I can see my Navionics charts clearly.

I'm delighted with my choice but it depends upon what is important to you.

So what did you buy?

I have a Nexus 7. It has developed a common fault in that it only charges when powered off. I will not charge while on. This is a well documented problem for which I cannot find a fix - and I have spent some hours trying. Its not waterproof and I wonder if water has caused the charging problem

It seems sensible to replace with a waterproof tablet, so wondered about the Sony Xperia Compact 8 inch.

I'm now viewing this on my swanky Samsung tab E. Impreßion so far is good. Setting up was a pain as usual, largely because i was asked for paßwords that ive forgotten. Butbthevtablet feels solid andvthe power connection doesnt wobble like the Hudl did. Overall I'm very pleased.

I had a Google Nexus 7" which was brilliant from the word go.I donated it to a daughter when I got an iPad.I miss the flexibility of the Android system, and there were good Wi-Fi sniffer programs available for Android, as well as JeppersonPlan to Nav nav programs.A caveat here, the money you hand over for Jepperson charts is no good if you change to Apple, tough, you have to buy again!

The eBay bought £43 Nexus 7 first gen has now arrived safely.Whilst not as good as the iPad, it has enabled me to re-download my Navionics charts and Jepperson Plan to Nav, plus other apps that I had previously purchased.
The socket for charging seems firmly implanted, and it says it is 32GB although the case says less.As an OP has mentioned perhaps in another thread, that charging only occurs when the machine is switched off.I'm not sure if this is not fairly normal with these?
In any event it will be nice to have the Nexus onboard, as a backup, plus Kindle will useful as the device is light to hold in the hand, which cannot be said of my iPad, which is really heavy to support in a hand.
