In your humble opinion(s), apart from the obvious abilities to steer and navigate a course/moor up without crashing etc.

Calm, patient, knowledgeable, in-command, understanding, good ears, (will listen), humurous, anecdotal, un-panicable!! Not neccessarily in that order!

From my own experience, I proved to be very popular as a skipper on both legs of the Cherbourg run, simply for the fact that I was able to navigate/prepare meals/make drinks without getting sea sick. This attribute has also always proved to be very popular when I have acted as crew for others!

Trying to keep in the spirit of this forum I suspect you really meant 'Good Kipper'

In which:
1 - lightly smoked,
2 - piping hot
3 - butter drizzled over
4 - not too many bones...

Skip also gets to be really smug after pulling crew and boat through something they didn't want to do in the first place in one piece!
