What jobs do your wifes/ partners do on the boat?

Cumon I dont believe she painted the engines, they're gold plated!!! She's fooling you she just polished them!

Depends who's got more time. 2 years ago I did the anti-fouling / cleaning / organised engine servicing etc ready for the new season, last year OH did it. This year, it's going to be a squeeze just to get the engine serviced as we're both short of time.

I don't mind helming at sea but don't like berthing at marinas etc though I can do and have done it. I tend to do all the foredeck stuff including anchoring / recovering the anchor and am usually the one who goes ashore with lines, not least because I am better at knots!

OH is more inclined to scrub the decks / scrape barnacles / remove slime etc but he spends a lot more time on the boat than I do so I think that's fair /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif We tend to share all electrical / mechanical / physical tasks - I'm better at DIY generally but he swears less when knuckles get scraped / hammers make contact with thumbs etc and I'm claustrophobic so need lots of light when I have to work in confined spaces.

We know loads of couples who sail where the guy does everything and the lady won't leave the cockpit except to step ashore once the boat is securely tied to the pontoon. Personally, my risk management strategy wouldn't allow me to be on board if I couldn't handle the boat myself when necessary and there was only one person who could!

interesting post as i often feel that I am very lucky in that my wife willingly does lots of work on the boat during the winter and at our home YC she is very much the exception- spent this weekend working during which she did all the antifouling + masked and repainted none slip on deck whilst I did cutlass bearing and reconnected prop shaft and repaired rudder - looking around club yard lots of us chaps working away but only one women - my wife - reassured in some ways to now read and realise that there are others who work on the family boat too - as for children! my vain hope was that as they get older they would enjoy and help more - no way - none of them have so much as stepped on the boat over the past few weekends of fitting out but still call/text us to find out what is for and what time is tea and to get lifts back and forth to friends/parties/sleepovers etc - still 1 out of 4 can't be bad (1 wife/3 children)

Well, amongst other things...
