A remote camera has two halves. The camera head and the viewer, screen or whatever.

Not necessarily, or at least not a dedicated one. The picture could have been viewed on a laptop, a smartphone or a plotter, any of which the previous owner would or could have taken with him. It's even possible that it could have included a GSM modem and been monitored from his house as a security/peace-of-mind measure, although I'm not suggesting that's particularly likely.

That's that then

Thanks to all who pitched in.

Best laugh went to Giblets IMHO.:D

Well - in the end it was <<<<drum roll>>>>>

A dummy camera with a flashing red LED.

It took longer to get off the mast than it did to throw it in the bin.:D

Why someone would tke the trouble to REMOVE the anchor light and fit that instead will remain a mystery I guess.

Cheers

OK. To all who think a mast head CCTV is pointless then I might agree. However it can be done so I am going to have a go. The OP seemed to have the set up I desire but now perhaps not because it was a dummy. Well mine will be working. Pan Tilt and Zoom. I will let you all know how it works out but for progress so far see http://www.sephina.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=51&Itemid=58
